Rozprawa dotyczy wieloaspektowej oceny zagrożenia radiologicznego w otoczeniu zbiorników retencyjno - dozujących wody kopalnianej. W ramach pracy podjęto problematykę występowania izotopów radu, uranu, ołowiu 2l0Pb.
potasu 40K w wodach, osadach, skale płonnej i atmosferze. Wykonano też analizy składu izotopowego i stężenia trytu w wodach.
Ra i 228Ra.
Title: Comprehensive evaluation of radiological hazard in the vicinity of sedimentation ponds adjacent to the Brzeszcze and Silesia coal mines.
The dissertation presented shows a comprehensive evaluation of the radiological hazards in the vicinity of storage reservoirs of coal mine water. The analytical part of dissertation focussed on the presence of radium, uranium, lead 210Pb, and potassium 40K isotopes in water, sediments, gangues, and in the atmosphere. Three reservoirs of mine water were selected for investigations: the Brzeszcze reservoir located in the town of Brzeszcze and supplied with water by the coal mine of the same name, the Kaniów reservoir (located in Kaniów and supplied by the Silesia coal mine), and the Rontok Duży reservoir located in Rudoltowice and supplied in the past also by the Silesia coal mine.
Measured activities of radionuclides in water and sediments as well as the stable isotope composition of oxygen (18O/16O), hydrogen (2H/1H) and concentration of tritium in water reflect different origin of groundwater flowing to mine workings. Groundwater inflows into the Silesia coal mine are dominated by saline waters recharged probably during the Miocene era with a small addition of modern water, whereas ground waters appearing in the Brzeszcze mine are predominantly of modern infiltration. Different origin of waters and mixing processes are responsible for the observed variability of chloride ions concentration and activities of radium isotopes: 226Ra and 228Ra. Based on the results of mineralogical analyses of sediments and water balance of the Brzeszcze and Kaniów reservoirs the total activity of 226Ra accumulated in sediments during their exploitation has been estimated. The field measurements of radon 222Rn activity in the atmosphere have been also performed. These investigations were complemented by measurements done using stationary meter situated several hundred meters from the reservoir Brzeszcze.
