Summary

Andrzej Kliś came from Bielsko-Biala, where he was born into a family of teachers. He finished the X Secondary School in Cracow and then he studied history at the Higher School of Education. After graduation he joined the Chair of the History of Education (at today’s Pedagogical University of Cracow). He was supported by Professor Czesław Majorek in his scientific path. He conducted studies in which he dealt with the history of education and the history of pedagogical thought. His most important book was titled “The pedagogical thought of Stanislaw Zarański”. A. Kliś scientific work dealt mainly with the problems of the history of 19th century education, in which he wrote several source articles. He participated in the development of several scripts and academic textbook for students. He shared his scientific work with trade union and organizational activities. He belonged to the Polish Teachers’ Union. In 1996 he was one of the organizers of the 2nd International Standing Conference of the History of Education (ISHE) in Poland, titled Schooling in Changing Societies. Historical and Comparative Perspectives (c. 1750–1996).
