SUMMARY

The errors resulting in the determination of

temperatures and heat fluxes by a finite one-dimensional

analog network are computed for the following conditions.

The boundary temperature. at the origin.

~s

of the

form t , where t is the time and n is a non-negative integer,

the end of the slab is held at constant temperature or is

perfectly insulated.

The results for both cases are given in

tablee and represented graphically for values of n ranging

from zero to ten.

10 Introducti2n

The temperature distribution and heat flux in a

one-dimensional finite slab of homogeneous material is determined by the analog method for a boundary temperature of the form

tnt n being apon-negative integero The interest of considering

such a temperature form arises from the fact that under relatively

general assumpti onsa a gi ven function of t can be approximated

by a suitable polynomialo The analog solution is compared

with the exact one and the resulting errors can be deduced

from tables given at the end of the reporto

are performed for the two l imit ing cases
