Increasing demands for modern materials make it necessary to improve their manufacturing processes in order to obtain a favorable combination of mechanical properties, i.e. high strength without loose of ductility. Ultra-fine grained materials are worth of particular notice because of their high strength. Unfortunately, the strengthening by increasing the volume fraction of the grain boundaries leads to an increase in strength while decreasing the plastic properties. As a result, the area of possible applications of the aforementioned type of material is significantly narrowed, leading to difficulties in cold plastic deformation. One of the most effective ways of determining the plasticity is to assess the ductility in tensile test.
The dissertation presents the ductility evaluation methodology based on true stress-true strain curves using so called Considére criterion. As a result, it was possible to designate clearly the location of deformation, which leads to plastic instability in uniaxial tensile test.
The main aim of the study was first of all to produce ultra-fine grained materials and subsequently to evaluate evaluation of their mechanical properties including the impact of the deformation accumulation degree on microstructure development, a quantitative assessment of relationships between microstructure and properties and performing calculations using computer simulation.
