Studium Mineralogiczno-Petrograficzne Larimaru z Sierra de Bahoruco
(Prowincja Barahona, Republika Dominikany)
The doctoral dissertation is devoted to the larimar from the Los Checheses deposit, which is one of the mineral wealth of the Dominican Republic. This term describes a decorative stone of varying colours (from white, through green to blue) occurs strongly altered basic rocks, pyroclastic rocks and fossil fragments trees and fruits. It is a complex mineralisation in which next pectolite were identified other minerals i.a.: calcite, natrol prehnite, chlorite, chlorite/smectite, apatite, hydrogarnet, nat copper, as well as graphitelike carbon material. On the basis changing structural-textual features and mineral composition, larimar classification was developed. Two types of larimar w distinguished, i.e. centric (C) and non-centric (NC), including subtypes. The UV-VIS-NIR data show that Cu2+ and Fe2+ ions probable pectolite’s chromophores.
Thermogravimetric data (TC show that water molecule contained in the structure of the analy pectolites are bound in different ways, depending on the col variety. This also indicates differences in the strength of bond of H groups. The lattice parameters and angular values of the b pectolite unit cell determined by X-ray analysis, differ significai from the cell parameters of the standard pectolite (ICDD) and ot coloured varieties of this mineral from the Los Checheses deposit.
