few merry occasionshave marked the time since our last volume was published. During the 2010 Papyrological Congress in Geneva the General Assembly of our Association kindly accepted the proposal of the Warsaw papyrologists to host the next Congress in Poland. It will take place from the 29th of July to the 3rd of August 2013, at the premises of the University of Warsaw. Its organization is a joint effort of the Warsaw ancient historians, romanists and archaeologists celebrating yet again the community of science and friendship around the Journal of Juristic Papyro -logy and the rooms of the Raphael Taubenschlag Library of Roman Law and Papyrology, an interfaculty institution belonging to the Faculty of Law and Administration and Faculty of History at the University of Warsaw. The planned gathering has already attracted attention of the authorities. The President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Bronisław Komorowski has graciously accepted the honorary patronage of the 27th Congress. The Congress Honorary Committee brings together the Lady Mayor of the City of Warsaw – Prof. Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Prof. Michał Kleiber, the Minister of Science and Higher Education – Prof. Barbara Kudrycka, the Marshal of the Mazovian Voivodeship – Mr. Adam Struzik, and the Director of the National Museum – Dr. Agnieszka Morawińska as well as the University of Warsaw authorities: the Rectrix, Prof. Katarzyna Chałasińska-Macukow, the Dean of the Faculty of History – Prof. Elżbieta Barbara Zybert.

FROM THE EDITORS

The Committee has decided to come back to the tradition to start each day of the meeting with general lectures aiming at an overview of the most important developments in various fields of papyrology in the recent years (we have decided for the following sessions: Ptolemaic Egypt, Roman Egypt, Late Antique / Byzantine Egypt, Coptic and Arab Egypt, Papyrology, Literary Papyri). We hope that many of our Readers will honour us with their presence in Warsaw, easily reachable from most corners of the world. Even if summers here occasionally tend to be rather hot, the recently modernised auditoria will provide for the optimal tem-perature of debates. Let it be yet another most cordial invitation to come to Warsaw in 2013!

FROM THE EDITORS

On the sixth of June 2011 our Alma Mater festively renovated the PhD of Józef Mélèze Modrzejewski once written under supervision of Rafał Taubenschlag and originally presented at the Faculty of History in 1957. The Senate of the University, having consulted as referees in the pro-ceeding Prof. Prof. Eva Cantarella of the University of Milan, Roger Bagnall of New York University and Hans-Albert Rupprecht of the University of Marburg, undertook to confer to Modrzejewski the highest distinction available to its own pupils in recognition of his scientific eminence, international significance, close collaboration with Warsaw, and his contribution to education of generations of younger scholars – as Prof. Włodzi mierz Lengauer, acting as the ceremonial supervisor in the proceedings, underlined in his laudatio. Modrzejewski responded in his inimitable witty and erudite style with an Encomium of Papyrology, pre-senting the numerous audience with the benefits and advantages of our science for the general public. Ad plurimos annos, dear Józef!
