Proceedings of Workshop on Fixed Point Theory

Kazimierz Dolny, Poland, 23-28 June 1997

Organizing Committee:

Kazimierz Goebel - Chairman ofthe Committee Stanisław Prus, Tadeusz Sękowski, Adam Stachura

KrzysztofBolibok, WiesławaKaczor- Secretaries

The Workshop on Fixed Point Theory 1997, organized by the Institute of Mathematicsof Maria Curie-Skodowska University, Lublin, washeldin Kazimierz Dolny, Poland, 23-28 June 1997. The purpose of the workshop was to maintain the tradition of meetings on fixed point theory, previously held in Marseilles (1989), Halifax (1991) and Seville (1995), and to bring togetherspecialists and young researchers interested in various aspects of metric and topological fixed point theory.

There were three mini-courses and several one-hour plenarylectures delivered by invited guest speakers, as well as twenty-minute communications, informal talks, discussions and a problem session. Therewere altogether fifty four papers and one informal presentationdelivered.

The financial support of KBN (Committee of Scientific Research) and the Institute of Mathematics ofMariaCurie-Skodowska Universitymade the meeting possible and enabled mathematicians from different countries to participate (83 participants from 15 countries attended the meeting). The workshop was also sponsoredby two banks: PKO BP and BRE.

The success ofthe meeting was first of all due to the interesting talksdelivered by top mathematicians and to a largeextent to theexcellent conferencefacilities offered at Kazimierz Dolny.

This volume contains the addresses delivered at theworkshopandsome papers whose authors had planned to give a talk but couldn’t attend the Workshop for various reasons.
