SUMMaRY OF THE mEdICal lIbRaRy foRum
Medical Library Forum (ISSN 1899-5829) is a Poland-wide semi-annual periodical
and it has been published since 2008 in 300 copies and is also available on the website of the Main Medical Library of the Medical University of Łódź (http://bg.umed.lodz. pl/).
Mr Ryszard Żmuda, PhD, is the Director of the University Library and the Editor – in - Chief of the aforementioned periodical and prof. Jacek Bartkowiak, MD, PhD, is the Chairman of the Programme Council. The contents of the current issue No 1. (7) 2011 constitute articles, papers and presentations from the conference in Szczecin concerning bio - and bibliographic headwords and iconographic materials.
The foreword to the periodical was written by brigadier general prof. Henryk Chmielewski MD, PhD, the former rector-commandant of the divisional general prof. Bolesław Szarecki Military Medical Academy in Łódź.
The article: Conference of the Directors of Academic Libraries of Polish Schools (1997-2011) gives a wider background and presents practical information from the scope of science librarianship in our country (Ewa Dobrzyńska–Lankosz, M.A.). The papers, presentations and messages from the 29th Problematic Conference of Medical Libraries entitled: “The strategy of shaping the science librarianship profile” constitute the results of the scientific convention. The convention was organised by the Director of the Main Library of the Pomeraniam Medical University in Szczecin - Dagmara Budek, M.A. between the 7th and the 9th of June 2011. The presentations concerned mainly: bibliometrics, digital repositories, bibliographic resources, bibliography of personnel teams, academic education, educating medicine librarians, workshops for academic teachers and electronic sources of information science. The sponsors presented the offers and products of the companies that were presented during the conference: Medical Publishing House PZWL, Wiley and Sons, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Aleph Poland, Elsevier, Ovid SP, ProQuest, EBSCO, Thomson Reuters, SUWECO, ABE/IPS.
Prof. Jacek Bartkowiak, MD , PhD (born 1943) – a biologist, biochemist, medical and science specialist, the Chairman of the Library Council of the Medical University in Łódź and of the Medical Library Forum Programme Council was presented in „The Biographical Lexicon of Scholars”. The photographic service provides iconographic documentation from Szczecin, Berlin and Potsdam. Addresses and photographs of the directors of university libraries in Poland are also included.
