(deuteru) w stopie bazowym Ti45Zr38Ni17 w funkcji temperatury,
• zbadanie wpływu podstawienia metali 3d na właściwości strukturalne
stopu Ti45Zr38Ni17w fazach amorficznej i kwazikrystalicznej oraz ich
wodorków,
• zbadanie właściwości fizycznych stopu Ti48Zr7Fe18 i jego wodorku, • analiza właściwości aplikacyjnych badanych materiałów pod kątem
Ti-based quasicrystals belong to the second largest group of the stable quasicrystals, showing attractive properties as hydrogen storage materials. The mechanically alloyed Ti45Zr38Ni17 intermetallic compound which is initially
amorphous, after annealing forms the icosahedral (i-phase) structure, in which Ti and Zr atoms possess very good chemical affinity for hydrogen absorption. The structure of Ti45Zr38Ni17 is based on the Bergmann cluster.
The basic samples easily absorb hydrogen, however its release is somewhat difficult. The Ti45Zr38Ni17 compound was modified by substituting 3d metals (Fe, Co,
Mn) for Ni to obtain amorphous phase. The 3d metals atoms are located in the same positions as nickel atoms. The obtained amorphous phases Ti45Zr38Ni17-xMx (M - Fe, Co,
Mn) transform to the i- phase at the similar temperature range as Ti45Zr38Ni17. The
above-mentioned substitutions were introduced in order to improve hydrogen storage properties (eg. to lower the desorption temperature). The structural characterization was made by means of XRD measurements. Thermodynamic properties were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). To find the influence of hydrogen and structure type on hyperfine interactions in the Fe rich Ti48Zr7Fe18 alloy the Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS) experiments were made. The
impact of the structure type and hydrogenation on the isomer shift and quadrupole split was shown and no traces of magnetic ordering were found.
The second issue addressed in this thesis is tracking of a character of the transformation between amorphous and quasicrystalline phase. This was made with help of in-situ neutron diffraction studies carried out up to 700°C.
The final concentration of absorbed hydrogen depends on the amount of 3d metals. The highest hydrogen concentration we observed for composition with Mn, smallest for compounds with Fe. After hydriding, the amorphous samples decompose into simple metal hydrides, and after dehydrogenation the system does not come back to amorphous phase. Contrarily, quasicrystals with substituted metals after hydrogenation and dehydrogenation retain the quasicrystal structure with increased lattice parameters for hydrided compounds. Although, no substantial improvement of storage capacities upon substituting 3d metals were noticed, and lowering of the desorption temperature was evidenced. Therefore, this thesis hints at some possibility of optimization of thermodynamic properties of Ti-based quasicrystals.
