Preface

Colleagues, Readers, Authors, Reviewers,

Members of the Scientific Committee, Thematic Editors,

Members of the Editorial Board,

I am more than pleased to inform you that the quarterly Family Medicine & Pri- mary Care Review has been accepted into the ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index, Thomson Reuters) and EBSCO databases. Beginning with 2016, our publications will be indexed and abstracted in these databases.

This issue of our quarterly is the consummation of the year 2016, in which we have worked laboriously. Family medicine is at present regarded as the basis of the healthcare system. It undoubtedly also remains an academic and scientific discipline and healthcare specialty with its own educational content, scientific research, body of accepted data, and clinical activity oriented towards primary care. Nevertheless, the modern healthcare system is characterized by coordination, versatility, and effective cooperation between specialists in family medicine and other fields. The present issue – the result of a cooperation between family doctors and experts in other disciplines – is the best example of this. We hope that it will not only support our readers in their scientific projects, but will also be a source of practical information suitable for the everyday diagnosis and therapy of patients.

The issue begins with original papers concerning the psychoemotional state of patients over 60 years old with chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency relocating with their family from the far north, insomnia in those over 60 years of age, an evaluation of life satisfaction and functional fitness of people over 60 years of age living in nursing homes and home environments, the significance of education and self-management support for patients with chronic heart failure in the practice of family physicians, depression symptoms, anxiety and personality traits in patients with coronary artery disease versus patients with chronic pancreatitis who have been hospital- ized due to exacerbation of the disease, intermittent pneumatic compression in patients with postmastectomy lymphedema, age-conditioned differences in parents’ attitudes towards compulsory vaccination, natural cold- -pressed oils as cosmetic products, students’ opinions on working in rural practices in Slovenia, expert views from Poland and Estonia on home care as an issue for primary health care, social determinants of awareness and behavior regarding STDs and HIV/AIDS among ever married women in Bangladesh, rapid diagnostic tests to detect asymptomatic malaria in primary health care facilities in hypoendemic areas and lipomas: a health condition that cannot be ignored.

The reviews section in the current issue includes articles on Zika virus infections from the perspective of GPs, matching user needs to technology in dementia care: experiences with the Alma Supervisor Educational Program, and an association between a nucleotide polymorphism in the calpain 10 gene and carbohydrate me- tabolism disturbances in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. We especially encourage you to familiarize yourself with the study in the CME section covering difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of Paget’s disease.

In closing the year 2016, I would like to thank all our Authors, Reviewers, Thematic Editors, and Members of the Editorial Board for their great efforts in the previous year, which resulted in increasingly high-quality articles and high scores for our quarterly from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (12 points) and Index Copernicus (ICV 2015: 106.31). Our main purpose is to support our authors and to consistently improve the factual level of our publications. We therefore encourage you to submit the outcomes of your research projects and to liaise with the Editorial Board of FM&PCR. The Thematic Editors and the Members of the Editorial Board will gladly assist you in the successive stages of submitting articles via our Editorial System, as well as during the review process and editorial work. I would also like to encourage you to meet with the Members of the Editorial Board at the Polish Society of Family Medicine (PSFM) stand during PSFM conferences, conventions, and con- gresses, and the Continuo Publishing stand, which can be visited at training courses throughout whole Poland!

I invite you to take part in the Sixth Congress of the Polish Society of Family Medicine, which will be held in Wroclaw on 29.09–01.10.2017. We also encourage you to start work on articles giving more details on the is- sues you will discuss in your presentations at that congress, which will be published in FM&PCR issue 03/2017.

On the occasion of the upcoming Christmas and New Year period and on behalf of the Editorial Board of Family Medicine & Primary Care Review, I wish you peaceful time with your loved ones and success in your work endeavors at the turn of the year, and both perseverance in fulfilling your passions in the New Year and research projects associated with the realities of family medicine that will give rise to new publications in FM&PCR in the coming year.
