Rys historyczny

Na terenie dzisiejszego miasta już w VIII wieku istniał gród obronny, w miejscu w którym w późniejszym okresie zbudowany został zamek. Po raz pierwszy nazwa Legnicy pojawiła się w roku 1149 w dokumencie Bolesława Kędzie­

rzawego, zwierzchniego księcia Polski. W1202 roku pojawia się wzmianka o kasztelanie, a w 1252 roku Legnica jest siedzibą dzielnicowych książąt z rodu Piastów, istnieje już dwór biskupów wrocławskich. Do 1675 roku Legnica jest stolicą księstwa piastowskiego. Po śmierci ostatniego po­

tomka męskiej linii Piastów Jerzego Wilhelma przechodzi pod bezpośrednie panowanie Habsburgów, a od 1742 roku Prus. W granice państwa Polskiego Legnica wraca w roku 1945. Zniszczona w działaniach wojennych w 60 %. Rozwój miasta w okresie powojennym związany jest z przemysłem miedziowym.

Od 1975 roku Legnica uzyskała status miasta wojewó­

dzkiego.

Położenie geograficzne

Miasto położone jest na Nizinie Śląskiej na 51°12" sze­

rokości geograficznej północnej i 16°10" długości geografi­

cznej wschodniej. Najniższy punkt miasta położony jest na wysokości 113 m npm, najwyższy na 168 m. Przez Legnicę przepływają rzeki: Kaczawa (14 km) wpadająca do Odry i dopływy Kaczawy - Czarna Woda (6,5 km) i Wierzbiak (6,5 km).

Legnica in Daten

Historische skizze

Auf dem Gebiet der heutigen Stadt war schon im VIII Jahrhundert eine befestigte Burg, gerade an dieser Stelle, an der später das Schloß gebaut wurde. Der Name Legnica erschien das erste Mal im Jahr 1149 in einem Dokument von Bolesław des Kräuselhaarigen, dem obrigkeitlichen Herzog von Polen.

Im Jahr 1202 erschien eine Erwähnung über einen Kastel­

lan, und im Jahre 1252 ist Legnica der Sitz der Teilfürsten des Piasteneschlechtes, schon besteht der Hof der Wroc- lauer/Breslauer/ Bischöfe. Bis zum Jahr 1675 ist Legnica die Hauptstadt des Piastenfürstentums. Nach dem Tod des letzten männlichen Nachkommen dieser Piastenlinie, Jerzy Wilhelms kommt Legnica unter direkte Herrschaft von Habs­

burgen, und seit 1742 von Preußen.

In die Grenzen des polischen Staates kehrt Legnica im Jahre 1945 zurück. Während der Kriegshandlungen wurde Legni­

ca in 60 % zerstört. Die Entwicklung der Stadt ist mit der Kupferindustrie verbunden.

Seit 1975 erhielt Legnica den Status einer Wojewod­

schaftsstadt.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

ö Piastenschloß aus dem XIII. Jahrhundert mit den Überresten der spätromanischen Hofkapelle, die Spende Heinrichs des Bärtigen.

a Gotische Marienkirche, gegründet im XII. Jahrhundert

a Gotische Peter-Paulus-Kirche, gebaut in den Jahren 1328-90.

b Spätbarokjesuitenkirche aus den Jahren 1714-30, mit der Barokgrabkapelle der Piasten aus der Hälfte des XVII.

Jahrhunderts und Kollegium aus den Anfängen des XVIII Jahrhunderts.

b Fragmente der Stadtmauer mit dem Glogowskator und mit dem Chojnowskaturm aus dem XIV Jahrhundert.

b Spätbarokbauten: Rathaus, Ritterakademie, Abteipalast der Zisterzieher von Lubiaz

b Patrizierhäuser aus der Renaissance, Haus "uniter dem Wachtelkorb"

Geographische Lage

Die Stadt liegt auf dem Schlesischen Tiefland auf 51 12"

nördlicher Breite und auf 15 10" östlicher Länge.

Der niedrigste Punkt der Stadt liegt 113m über dem Meeres­

spiegel, der höchste Punkt liegt 168 m über dem Meeres­

spiegel. Durch Legnica fließen die Flüsse: Kaczawa/14 km/, die in die Oder mündet und der Nebenfluß von Kaczawa - Czarna-Woda /6,5 Km/ und Wierzbiak /6,5 Km/.

Short history

On the territory of contemporary Legnica in the 8 th century existed fortified settlement. Later on on the same

place the castle was built.

The name of Legnica appeared for the first time in 1149 in the document by Bolesław Kędzierzawy - Prince of Poland.

In 1202 there is a mention of a castellan /governor of a castel/. In 1252 Legnica was a saet of provincial princes of the House of Piast, the manor of the bishops of Wrocław has already existed. Until 1675 Legnica had been a capitol of the Piast Principality. After the death of the last male descendant of the House of Piast - Jerzy Pilhelm - Legnica fell under the rule of Habsburgs and from 1742 under the rule of Prussia.

Legnica came back to Poland in 1945. Due to military operations the city was destroyed in 60 %. The development of the city after war is connected to the copper industry.

In 1975 Legnica became the capitol of the province.

Legnica is situated on Śląska Plain 51 12" North, 1610"

East. The lowest point is 113 m and the highest - 168 m above sea level. Three rivers flow ascross Legnica: Kaczawa /14 km, tributary of river Odra/ and its tributaries - Czarna

Woda/6,5 jm/ and Wierzbiak /6,5 km/.
