Brief introduction - crucial facts & figures About the Faculty of Management

* 1972 – the Institute of Management Studies was set up at the University of Warsaw

* 1974 – it became the Institute of Organization and Management of the University of Warsaw together with the Polish Academy of Sciences

* 1977 – the Institute became a Faculty

* Faculty of Management has aimed to produce highly-expert managers for Polish business as well as local and central government

* A high standard of education is ensured by the academic staff in the fields of economics, law, management theory, quantitative methods, marketing finance, sociology, psychology and others

* One of the largest faculties of the University of Warsaw – over 6000 students

* The Faculty has awarded over 15.000 M.A. degrees, over 3.000 B.A. degrees, 700 MBA degrees as well as 175 Ph.D and 33 reader/assistant professor degrees

* The Faculty employs 132 university teachers on permanent basis as well as 43 administrative and supporting staff

Organizational issues

The International Relations Office (IRO) at the Faculty of Management

The IRO is the central point of contact for all international students at the Faculty of Management. Our office staff will help you with immigration issues, orient you to the campus and facilitates your adaptation to life in Warsaw.

Academic calendar

Academic year at the University of Warsaw consists of two semesters: winter (=fall) & summer (=spring) Winter semester lasts from Oct. 1st to late January.

After short winter break (around 1 week) starts Summer semester in the period as follows: the middle of February – beginning of June.

Further information regarding the upcoming year such as the details of our Orientation Meeting, the final sets of courses available for foreign students at our Faculty and at the UW, detailed timetable, registration procedures for the lectures and more follow to students in due time (~2 months before the particular semester starts).

We will keep up to date all incoming students by direct contact with each nominated student via email.

Application Procedure:

The deadlines for submitting the application documents are as follows:

Fall semester May 31

Spring semester November 30

Applicants need to submit documents listed below:

1) Application form (available on the FoM website and also will be provided to candidates or their coordinators via email)

2) Curriculum Vitae

3) Official letter from home university confirming student’s nomination

4) Previous education degree (e.g. copy of the diploma or Transcript of records) 5) 1 copy of student's passport picture page

6) A recent electronic photograph (to be sent via email):

Student’s e-photo meeting carefully mentioned below requirements is necessary to prepare his/her UW Student ID.

It should be 300 x 375 pixels, as this allows the printing of a 2cm x 2.5cm photo of appropriate quality. The electronic photo must be in JPG format, and its size may not exceed 50 kB

7) English language ability (if student’s mother tongue is not English language):we accept the following certificates of proficiency in English language: GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE confirming the

intermediate/upper-intermediate knowledge of English, minimum on the level B2.

Alternatively we can accept certificate from student’s home university confirming English skills as above.

Mentor - help during student's stay in Poland:

We are perfectly aware that a lot of our future incoming students is very interested in the possibility of having a mentor/buddy who'll help them in their "first steps" in Warsaw and generally during their stay in Poland.

Being a foreign student at the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Management gives the opportunity of having your own mentor - a Polish Warsaw University student who can pick you up from the airport after arrival, take you for the Faculty/University and town tour, introduce to you the formal procedures and the student lifestyle and generally will provide you with any kind of help throughout your stay.

To apply for mentor please place an appropriate note in our application form or just send the request via mentioned above e-mail.

Also, while looking for your buddy you are welcome to use the service of Erasmus Student Network UW (ESN UW) - international student organization having the branches across the whole Europe including our university. Accommodation and living in Warsaw

The University of Warsaw has agreements with a few dormitories for students. Rent ranges per month depend on the sort of room (double or triple) and student house.

Students who would like to apply for university accommodation will be provided with additional information in due time.

Please note: the rooms and flats in our dormitories are scarce and unfortunately we CAN NOT guarantee that we will be able to arrange the housing for you in your selected student house!

Consular information – VISA & RESIDENCE PERMIT

Before coming to Poland please make sure whether you have to apply for a Polish student visa in your country of origin.

Insurance and health insurance

Health insurance is mandatory for all students for the whole duration of their stay in Poland.

Otherwise you will be asked to pay for any health service you get.

Every student coming to the University of Warsaw for short-term studies will be asked to present proof of health insurance upon arrival.

Foreign students and academics are advised to purchase third party liability insurance and accident insurance in their home countries.

EU citizens staying in Poland are eligible for free health service providing they present their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) along with the Student ID and passport or ID card .

EU citizens not having insurance in their country of residence and non-EU citizens may sign an insurance agreement with the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ-Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) or with one of private clinics.
