F R O M T H E E D I T O R Kardiologia Polska in 2019 and a look into the future 1117 We believe that the journal has made strides in the right direction showing a huge potential of the Polish cardiology with hardworking, gift‑

ed basic and clinical scientists. I am confident that our readership, prestige, and rank will con‑

tinue to grow. The new year 2020 will be the first in which mainly papers accepted by the current editorial team will get counted in the 2‑year IF, and it will mean a further increase in this mea‑

sure. The future looks very bright as we plan to publish several reviews prepared by eminent experts and original papers that share clinical‑

ly relevant findings.

Again, we would like to thank authors and reviewers who have all contributed to the con‑

tinuing excellence of our journal. We work for you and express thanks to you.

With another period of hard work ahead, Mer‑

ry Christmas and happy New Year 2020 for all those who like, read, and support Kardiol Pol.

HOW TO CITE Undas A. Kardiologia Polska in 2019 and a look into the future.

Kardiol Pol. 2019; 77: 1117‑1118. doi:10.33963/KP.15108

At the very end of our challenging and exciting 2‑year service for the Polish Cardiac Society as the Editors of Kardiologia Polska ( Kardiol Pol, Pol- ish Heart Journal), let us summarize our major achievements:

• an increased number of publications by inter‑

national experts, reviews in particular

• launch of new article formats in the journal such as short communications (for prelimi‑

nary studies and small case series) and edi‑

torials to original articles

• a greater number of cited original papers and reviews

• a fast and transparent review process (the av‑

erage peer review time is now 9 days and our average time to the first editorial decision af‑

ter reviews is 25 days)

• following a standard editorial and publication process (an accepted article appears in print after 3 months on average)

• a new editorial system—Editorial Manager

• the publication of Zeszyty Edukacyjne Kardi- ologii Polskiej (Educational Journal of Kardiolo- gia Polska) with the Polish translations of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guide‑

lines (as previously, one guideline document published monthly) and other position state‑

ments and expert opinions, which are target‑

ed at doctors and aim to disseminate current practical knowledge on cardiovascular diseases

• a  free‑of‑charge mobile application with the newest ESC guidelines in Polish was de‑

veloped in cooperation with the current pub‑

lisher of Kardiol Pol, Medycyna Praktyczna (since April 2019)

• presence of the journal in social media (Face‑

book, Twitter)

Based on our calculations, the 2019 Impact Fac‑

tor (IF) of Kardiol Pol will reach 2.0. This value can be achieved with a strong financial support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for years 2019 and 2020.
