Dear Colleagues, Dear Readers,

Summer is over and we are looking forward to autumn bringing its cooler air after weeks of hot and sunny weather. However, autumn is a hot period of our educational and scientific activities during many conferences taking place in Poland and abroad. Our journal is of special value for those busy physicians who are not able to attend these meetings.

We strongly encourage you to read current reco

The Original Papers section includes: a paper from the Lodz center about the blood serum concentration of gonadotropin and alpha subunit in patients with gonadotropic adenomas, a paper from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow discussing the relationship between invasiveness of pituitary adenomas and pro- liferative index measured by topoisomerase II alpha immunoexpression, a report from Kiev describing the effect of the substance regulating concentrations of serotonin and tryptophan in rat brains on body weight

of these animals, a paper from Turkey about thyroid hormone concentrations in patients with brain death, a report from the Warsaw center discussing metabolic parameters in association with insulin and adiponec- tin in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, another paper from Lodz regarding the role of cAMP/PKA signaling pathway in the inhibitory effect of melatonin on the secretion of oxytocin and vasopressin in experimental animals, and a report from multicenter study on the use of medical resources and costs of treatment with Lanreotide Autogel 120 mg in Polish patients with neuroendocrine tumors.

The first Review Paper by authors from the Cracow center and the University of Arkansas discusses cur- rent views on the hormonal regulation of appetite, the causes of obesity and the effectiveness of surgical treat- ment of obesity. Another review paper, by Hungarian authors, describes in detail the role of chromogranin A in the pathogenesis of diabetes.

This issue of EP also contains the summaries of papers submitted to the 5th Congress of the Polish Society of Neuroendocrinology.
