This Festschrift is dedicated to Professor Maria Steffen-Batóg, a

phonetician heading the Department of Phonetics (Institute of Linguistics, Adam Mickiewicz University) and Professor Tadeusz Batóg, a logician heading the Department of Mathematical Logic (Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science, Adam Mickiewicz University). The editor presents the scientific achievements of Maria Steffen-Batóg (works on

phonostatistics, speech recognition, algorithms of phonemic, phonetic and orthographic transcription, accent and intonation). He also discusses those of Tadeusz Batóg (logical reconstruction of phonology, papers on

philosophy of mathematics and logic, history of logic and textbooks on mathematical logic).

Eufonia i Logos

The book contains about 50 articles. It is divided into two parts: I.

Phonetics and phonology and II. Problems from logic, linguistics and methodology of science. The first part contains works on automatic analysis, synthesis and recognition of speech, acoustic parameters, syllable, perception of speech, phonetic typology, algorithms in phonetics and phonology and phonetic variation in speech. The second part includes articles on mathematical logic (with special emphasis put on the theory of categorial grammar), formal pragmatics, general, typological and computer linguistics, philosophy of language, philosophy and methodology of science, logical foundations of law, knowledge representation, philosophy of logic.

The majority of authors are distinguished professors in their fields. The book may be of interest to those who are working in the domains of phonetics and phonology, logic, linguistics, philosophy and methodology of science.
