Online Sensor System Based on Laser-Induced Breakdown
Spectroscopy in Quality Inspection of Demolition Concrete
Autogenous Milling
Advanced Dry Recovery (ADR)
Process Control
To control a process or machine, the quality in terms of compositional variations of input material and output products needs to be monitored.
Quality Inspection
ADR Coarse (left) and Fine (right) Fractions
Specific and determining element contents in final products, such as calcium, silicon, a l u m i n u m , i r o n , p o t a s s i u m , m a g n e s i u m , sodium, sulfur and chlorine must be measured.

LIBS Spectra of Elements
PhD researcher: Han Xia
Supervisor: Dr. M.C.M. Bakker
Principle of On-Line LIBS SensorLIBS is an all-optical, rapid spectrochemical analytical technique that can be used for in-situ and stand-off measurements. A focused laser beam produces a plasma on the material surface moving on the conveyor belt. The photon wavelength emitted by the plasma provides compositional information of the sample material, and the photon count is proportional to the concentration of the element species.
Contamination Detection
Demolition Concrete
Wood, foam, gypsum, polymer, metals, glass, and organic contaminants in municipal buildings must be detected in the waste flow.
Methodology
Quantitative Analysis of Four ADR Fine Output Samples using Partial Least Squares
Quantitative Analysis
Classification of Waste Materials using Principal Component Analysis
Semi-Quantitative Analysis
The project is realized thanks to the financial support of the European Commission in the framework of the FP7 Collaborative project “Advanced Technologies for the Production of Cement and Clean Aggregates from Construction and Demolition Waste (C2CA) ”. Grant Agreement No 265189.
