Subject: Learning English through songs
Today’s lesson will be based on music. I encourage you to learn English by listening to different songs.
I’d like to share with you my musical interest and visualise one of my favourite band U2.
U2
are an Irish rock band from Dublin, formed in 1976. The group consists of Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.U2's musical style has evolved throughout their career, yet has maintained a great quality built on Bono's expressive vocals and the Edge's effects-based guitar textures. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal and sociopolitical themes.
Their albums Boy (1980), War (1983) and the singles "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Pride (In the Name of Love)" helped establish U2's reputation as a politically and socially conscious group.
By the mid-1980s, they had become renowned globally for their live act, highlighted by their performance at Live Aid in 1985. The group's fifth album, The Joshua Tree (1987), made them international superstars and was their greatest critical and commercial success. Topping music charts around the world, it produced their only number-one singles in the US to date:

This song is not a love song—it’s a song about resignation.
Bono actually said in an interview “The song is a bit twisted, which is why I could never figure out why people wanted it during their weddings. I have certainly met a hundred people who’ve had it at their weddings. I tell them ‘Are you mad? It’s about splitting up!’”
He even said it was partially about a gay son coming out to his religious father.
