FROM THE EDITOR
Go to Facebook! Kardiologia Polska is there
I am pleased to announce that we have recently launched the official Facebook page of Kardiologia Polska. We are excited to have a new way of communicating with our readers and authors.
Our Facebook page now allows editors to post the latest information pertaining to the journal. Authors are encouraged to “like” the page to be informed of the latest updates. The ultimate goal of all journals’ Facebook pages is to provide an additional tool to stay in touch with authors, reviewers, and readers. Young cardiologists today have grown up in the era of social media. Most of them have a Facebook profile with hundreds of friends from their university and hospital. Social media is causing a revolution within science and medicine, including cardiology, worldwide. Now all publications are available faster and are more open and interactive because of tools such as Facebook. Kardiologia Polska, like many prestigious medical journals, cannot be slow to change in this regard.
In particular, our aim is to give readers a representation of the content of the journal by drawing their attention to the articles that have been published in recent issues. Each month an interesting clinical problem based on a brief case report will be presented on our page. Please feel free to send us your diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and to ask other read- ers for advice. Books on heart diseases, generously provided by our publisher, Via Medica, will be distributed among those who share their opinions on the cases posted on our Facebook page.
I encourage everyone to share their opinions and criticism in the comments — it is a unique opportunity to create a space for dialogue and to put all of us, the readers, authors, and editors, closer together. We would like to reach out to a broader community of experienced and soon-to-be cardiologists, as well as everyone interested in basic or clinical science and eager to improve their knowledge and everyday practice. The Facebook page will serve as a means of sharing information about recently implemented improvements and upcoming events promoted by Kardiologia Polska.
At the beginning of May 2018, we will announce an exciting competition, the participants of which will have a chance to win accommodation and registration waivers for the XXII International Congress of the Polish Cardiac Society, which will be held in Krakow on September 13–15, 2018. The winners will be announced on May 18, 2018 during the Editor-in-Chief Session at our spring conference in Krakow. Make sure you “like” us, so that you do not miss out on this initiative.
Moreover, I would like to highlight the changes in the April issue, which I announced in my January editorial. I hope our readers will enjoy the two review papers from key opinion leaders, one on oxidative stress in cardiovascular disease and the other on arterial hypertension in the elderly, along with the editorials prepared by experts from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and Yale University, commenting on two original articles published in the current issue. Please share your opinions and views on these papers with us on Facebook.
Special thanks go to Doctor Paweł Rostoff and Professor Grzegorz Gajos for their contribution to this project. And, once again, if you are on Facebook, please like our page (https://www.facebook.com/Polish-Heart-Journal-224729761420218/) and perhaps recommend it to your colleagues and co-workers, to support the journal and spread the word about the interesting research published in Kardiologia Polska.
