FROM THE EDITORS Dear Readers,

we present the first New Year’s issue of Psychiatria Polska. As you have probably noti- ced – it is extremely extensive. The decision to publish up to twenty texts resulted from the necessity of settlement of Ministerial grant, which requires the submission of an adequate number of author’s sheets. This is also why last year we could accept articles longer than the standard 15 pages, with longer references and texts containing extensive appendices. We do not know yet the journals funding opportunities in 2016, however, we will probably aim to reduce the number of works in issues (too many papers in the yearbook/volume of the journal may adversely affect the IF value – on the occasion of this remark we renew our earnest request to Colleagues, when you send your work to other journals, remember about the publications in the field which appeared in Psychiatria Polska and quote them. The Editors receive a large amount of very good texts and we are confident that the achievements of Polish psychiatrists can be proudly promoted in the world).

The current issue is mostly devoted to neurotic disorders and the history of psychiatry. Neu- rotic symptoms in clinical practice concern not only a very large group of patients presenting to psychiatric treatment and psychotherapy, but they are also an important interdisciplinary issue, because patients with various psychogenic symptoms may begin their diagnosis and treatment from doctors of other medical specialties. Readers can read the text of Jerzy Sobański et al. on pseudo-cardiac symptoms in patients qualified for psychotherapy. It is worth paying attention to the analysis of various somatic symptoms in patients with mental disorders, which appeared recently in both Psychiatria Polska and other journals, e.g. [1–5].

The issue of neurotic disorders cannot be discussed without considering the effectiveness and course of psychotherapy. The paper on tactics of manipulation in everyday life and during therapy in patients with neuroses and the paper, written by the team of Krakow Department of Psychotherapy, devoted to changes in the functioning of personality as a result of intensive therapy in the day hospital, refer to this issue. The latter publication refers to the series of papers relating to various aspects of the effectiveness of psychotherapy in the treatment of neuroses (it is worth to remain e.g. [6–9]).

On the other hand, the paper on the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder and physical activity in patients with anorexia is a continuation of the interest of the team of authors in relationships between eating disorders and OCD, what was published in Psychiatria Polska in 2014 [10].

We would like to draw particular attention to a very interesting paper written by Jacek Prusak on differentiation of religious or spiritual problem in the light of the DSM-5. The author is a Jesuit priest and a psychotherapist at the same time, for many years he has been coopera- ting with the Department of Psychiatry in Krakow. Problems described by him inspire a lively discussion among the psychiatric milieu (which is reflected in the attached letter to the editor written by Dr Sławomir Murawiec). These texts are particularly important in the context of the

new movie by Konrad Szołajski entitled “Fight against Satan” (“Walka z Szatanem”) which shows the contemporary practice of exorcism illustrated with an example of three young wo- men. This image is extremely touching; we hope that it will reach a wide audience, especially psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists. Therefore, we recommend you to read the letter to the editor written by Michał Mielimąka and Katarzyna Cyranka, which is a valuable comment on these issues.

Presenting the current issue of Psychiatria Polska a little earlier than usual, we wish you all the best for the entire year 2016 hoping that it will be better and more peaceful for all of us.
