Dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World by some, the Eden Project is a dramatic global garden housed in tropical biomes that nestle in a crater the size of 30 football pitches.

With a worldwide reputation, and recognised by the British Travel Awards as the Best UK Leisure Attraction 4 years running Eden barely needs an introduction, but this epic destination definitely deserves a day of your undivided attention. More than just a huge, tropical garden, Eden is a gateway into the relationships between plants and people, and a fascinating insight into the story of mankind's dependence on plant life. Not only a mind-blowing visitor

attraction, Eden is also fast-becoming a unique resource for education and knowledge towards a sustainable future.

Experience the sights, smells and scale of the rainforests in the Rainforest Biome - the world's largest greenhouse - and discover the tropical plants that are used to produce everyday

products. Travel to South Africa and California, as you walk amongst the orange and lemon trees, olive groves and gnarled vines of the Mediterranean Biome, and in the 30-acre Outdoor Garden see hemp, sunflowers and other plants that could change your future, flourishing under the Cornish sun.

A fascinating location, but, more importantly, Eden is a fun and family-friendly day out.

Curious kids can find out where tea, rubber and sugar come from, and travel the world to the simulated environments of tropical destinations that they dream of travelling to in the future.

There are themed events according to the seasons, workshops for adults and children, activity days, music concerts and much more besides.

There's no stress about packing up a family survival kit - facilities include on-site restaurants and cafes, gift shops and well equipped child- and baby-friendly toilet facilities. In fact, for a day out you needn't worry about taking much more than yourselves. Eden also offers easy access to wheelchairs and buggies, and dogs on leads are welcome in all the outdoor areas of the site.

Top 10 reasons to visit the Eden Project:

1. The world's largest rainforest in captivity with steamy jungles and waterfalls.

2. Cutting-edge architecture and buildings.

3. Stunning garden displays all year round.

4. World-class sculpture and art.

5. Evening gigs, concerts and an ice rink in the winter.

6. Educational centre and demonstrations to inspire all ages.

7. Brilliant local, fairly-traded food in the restaurants and cafes.

8. A rainforest canopy walkway that takes you above the treetops.

9. Living example of regeneration and sustainable living.

10. Free land train pulled by a tractor.

There's so much going on at Eden that it's good to check their own events calendar and food menus before a visit to make sure you don't miss out on anything.

Should e-mails open with Dear, Hi or Hey?

It's time people stopped using the word ‘Dear…’ to start work e-mails. 3.1. __________ She surprised lots of people by starting an email to a group of journalists with the words ‘Hey, folks.’

The American newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, wrote ‘Across the internet, the use of

‘dear’ is going…’

Ms Barry thinks ‘Dear’ is too intimate and makes it sound like you have a personal relationship with the person you are writing to.

3.2. __________ E-mail and the internet have changed the rules about how to write. In the past, there was no choice, but now you can see e-mails from people starting with ‘hello’, ‘hi’

and even ‘hey’.

3.3. ___________Etiquette expert Jean Broke-Smith says, ‘I’m fed up with people writing ‘Hi Jean’ when they’ve never met me. If you’re sending a business e-mail you should begin

‘Dear...’ - like a letter. You are presenting yourself. 3.4. __________ ‘We are losing the art of letter writing. E-mails are becoming like texts. If we don’t get a handle on it, future

generations won’t be able to spell at all.’

But why are so many of us cutting ‘Dear...’ from our e-mails, even in the workplace? The simplest answer is that it no longer says what it means, it feels cold and distant.

(5)

‘The only time I write ‘Dear...’ is if I’m making a complaint,’ says Dan Germain, head of creative at Innocent smoothies. ‘If I’m writing to someone I am trying to impress, I would simply say ‘Hello’. 3.5. __________’

The word also implies being of a certain age, says Jon King, managing director of the digital marketing agency Story Worldwide, who adds: ‘I never use ‘Dear...’ It’s old-dearish.’

3.6. __________. She is a spokeswoman for the Emily Post Institute, which is based in Vermont and provides etiquette experts and advice to corporations in the US.

‘We have to remember that at the start of an e-mail we are sending a subtle message. If I write

‘hi’ to a person I don’t know, I risk falling into a pit. I shouldn’t presume I can be so familiar.’

‘I would use ‘Dear...’ with people I don’t know particularly well, because it corresponds to respect. 3.7. __________ To convey that kind of ‘Dear...’ you need to write ‘my dearest’.’

3.8. __________. ‘Yours faithfully’ can’t be trusted. ‘Sincerely’ feels insincere. And your

‘kindest regards’ sound like anything but.

Liz Brewer believes you can never go wrong with ‘best wishes’. ‘People put ‘XX’ all the time - and that’s fine, but only if you would kiss the person in the street.’

3.9. __________ ‘It’s the hottest question I get asked at my business classes. If it’s business, I would stick to ‘regards’, ‘kind regards’ or ‘best’.

‘Cheers’ is too warm for some industries. 3.10. __________ How could they be your ‘best regards’ if you couldn’t even be bothered to type them out?

The trick with sign-offs is to choose a phrase that’s almost invisible, because if the phrase looks odd ‘then people are no longer thinking about the content of your message’, says Anna Post.

So maybe the solution to what’s right to write is just to keep it simple.

Adapted from http://www.bbc.com

A. Losing ‘Dear...’ does not equal rudeness.

B. But the one I really don’t like is ‘BR’.

C. Politeness and etiquette are essential.

D. But if introductions are a dilemma, sign-offs are a social networking minefield.

E. But not everyone is as relaxed about this as Ms Barry.

F. It seems she’s not alone.

G. The trouble with sign-offs is you have so many options, says Anna Post.

H. I disagree with people who say ‘Dear...’ means ‘you are particularly dear to me’.

I. That all depends on the recipient, says Anna Post.

J. That’s according to Giselle Barry, a woman who works in the United States Congress.

US election 2016 result: Trump beats Clinton to take White House

Donald Trump will be the 45th president of the United States after he defeated Hillary Clinton.

4.1. ……….

At his victory celebration in New York Trump said: "I just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us on our victory." He also said that Hillary Clinton had worked very hard and for a very long time for America, and that his supporters should thank her for this.

4.2. ………...

Trump, who announced that he wanted to be president in June last year, said that his victory had been "tough". The real estate billionaire and former reality TV star is new to the world of politics. He was laughed at across the globe when he said he wanted to be president, but in the election he won many of the key states.

4.3. ………...

Trump’s proposals are popular with white working-class Americans as they are angry at the people in power and feel that they are struggling in today’s economy.

4.4. ………...

The result of the election was very surprising because Mrs Clinton was ahead by four points in many polls. However, the FBI investigated Mrs Clinton because of her use of a private email server when she had a high government position.

4.5. ………

Even though Trump won more votes, he has divided American society. During the last hours of voting, Canada’s main immigration website crashed. Visitors got a "this page isn’t

working" error message.

A. When campaigning, he offended many people with his comments about women, Muslims and his plans to stop immigrants getting into the US from Mexico by building a wall along the border.

B. She was cleared for a second time last Sunday of doing anything illegal, but experts think the event probably hurt her chances in the election.

C. When it was time for voting, men were much more likely to vote for Mr Trump, while women mainly voted for Mrs Clinton. Nearly nine in 10 black voters and two-thirds of Latinos voted for the Democrat, but more than half of white voters supported the Republican.

D. Mrs Clinton, 69, did not arrive for what was going to be her victory celebration in Manhattan. The mood was dark at the election night party as supporters cried and left early.

(7)

E. The shock result caused global markets to fall, as a Clinton win was expected. Trump gained victories in the key states of Florida, Ohio and North Carolina, and with victory in Wisconsin he got the 270 out of 538 votes that he needed to become president.
