Tadeusz Chrościcki – Condition and Prospects of Polish Economy 23 In 2007 the Polish economy achieved the quickest pace of growth in the recent decade, with all the leading sectors experiencing growth trends gene-rated by a strong national demand of a combined investment – related and consumption – related nature. The economic boom and heightened companies’

activity translated into advantageous fi nancial results, a good situation in public fi nances in general, increases in job creation, salaries and employment levels, vivid drops in unemployment rates, and improved individual consump-tion dynamics. At the same time some signals of lurking threats appeared;

their strengthening in future might destroy the macroeconomic balance.

government units and entrepreneurs permits to disclose possible irregularities and even up „the rules of the game” for the entrepreneurs in receipt of pub-lic assistance, those with special entitlements, and the remaining economic entities.

Przemysław Szustakiewicz – Central Anti-Corruption Office as an Audit Institution ... 74 Two years have elapsed since the adoption of the legal act on establishing the Central Anti-Corruption Offi ce, as the fi rst body ever created in the hi-story of Poland for the particular purpose of combating corruption in public and economic life. In accordance with this act, combating corruption by the CAO is primarily focused on prosecuting criminal offences with corruption involved, and taking up auditing activities aimed at disclosing corruption in state institutions and local Government units.

Paweł Wieczorek – Prospects for the Common Use of Liquid Bio-Fuels in the EU Transportation Sector ... 95 A growing demand for fuels manifested by EU member states’ economies naturally highlights the importance of renewable energy sources. Growth in eco-fuels’ production means that one part of corn, sugar cane, soybean or rape crops is going to be burnt in car engines, which in turn is bound to precipitate the poorest countries’ food crisis. Translated into higher prices of food products, the negative consequences of the liquid bio-fuels’ market growth will also be experienced by the EU member states.

None of the local Government units concerned has exceeded the mandatory indeb-tedness levels.
