Wraz z upowszechnieniem się urządzeń typu PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), zaczęły rozwijać się nowe zastosowania sieci WLAN, charakteryzujące się większą ruchliwością stacji abonenckich, a to z kolei wiązało się z większą dynamiką zmian parametrów kanału radiowego.
Ponieważ dotychczasowe, opisane w literaturze algorytmy doboru optymalnych przepływności stacji abonenckich w sieci WLAN nie uwzględniają wyżej wymienionego zjawiska, dlatego dla potrzeb niniejszej rozprawy zaproponowano nowe, oryginalne algorytmy doboru optymalnych przepływności dla stacji abonenckich.
Prezentowana praca składa się z siedmiu rozdziałów. W rozdziale pierwszym przytoczono ogólnie znane informacje, dotyczące problematyki rozprawy oraz sformułowano tezę i wymieniono szczegółowe zagadnienia, za pomocą których postanowiono jej dowieść. W rozdziale drugim przedstawiono istotne z punktu widzenia rozprawy właściwości bezprzewodowych sieci lokalnych standardu IEEE 802.11. W rozdziale trzecim opisano metodologię symulacji sieci bezprzewodowych łączności ruchomej z wykorzystaniem pakietowego symulatora NS-2. Rozdział czwarty zawiera przegląd najpopularniejszych, opisanych w literaturze, algorytmów doboru trybu pracy stacji bezprzewodowej. W rozdziale piątym przedstawiono autorski algorytm doboru trybu pracy stacji RADIOMAN oparty na znajomości parametrów ruchowych sieci oraz predykcji stanu kanału radiowego. Kolejny, szósty rozdział zawiera opisy trzech algorytmów SILESiA, EMIRATE oraz LATERAN, będących uproszczonymi wersjami algorytmu RADIOMAN. Rozdział siódmy stanowi podsumowanie oraz wskazuje kierunki dalszych badań.
Optimization of data rate selection algorithms in IEEE 802.1 1 networks for nomadic and mobile services.
The IEEE 802.11 a/b/g standards enable mobile stations to use multiple transmission modes characterized by different data rates and resilience against channel induced noise. With the introduction of the wireless LAN enabled PDA (Personal Data Assistant) devices and car-to-car communication (IEEE 802.1 lp) a new area of the wireless local area network application was born. Since data rate adaptation algorithms used so far are not prepared for such a abruptly changing environment there was a need to develop a new versatile data rate selection algorithm for wireless LAN devices. The dissertation introduces a family of four new algorithms designed to operate in a various radio communication scenarios, ranging from the most popular nomadic scenario to the highly mobile car-to-car use case.
The dissertation consists of seven chapters. The first chapter introduces the thesis of the dissertation and methods that will be used to prove it. The second chapter gives an overview of the relevant aspects of the wireless LAN technology and presents the state of the art in the field of data rate adaptation algorithms for IEEE 802.11 networks. The succeeding chapter presents a methodology of simulation of the multi-rate wireless networks using the packet based NS-2 simulator. A derivation and performance evaluation of the new versatile data rate selection algorithm (RADIOMAN) is presented in chapter five. Three modifications of the RADIOMAN algorithm called SILESiA, EMIRATE and LATERAN are derived and their performance is evaluated in chapter six. The last chapter provides final conclusions and presents directions of the further research.
