Effect of ceramic nanoparticles on the graphitisation process of coal
tar pitch - based carbon precursors
Wprowadzenie nanocząstek β-SiC i SiOx do paku węglowego skutkuje
Obtaining a graphite structure requires a high- temperature processing of carbon precursors, with the final stage of which is graphitization at 2800°C. A high energy consumption of this process makes it not economical, and the high emission of harmful compounds, including PAHs, makes it harmful to the environment.
Lowering the temperature of the graphitization process is possible by using ceramic nanoadditives, which have the ability to modify the carbonization and graphitization processes of coal tar pitch.
The addition of the nanometric β-SiC and SiOx to coal tar pitch, results
in the creation of graphene structures in the carbon matrix. Nanometric SiC also affects the process of catalytic graphitization.
The use of nanometric montmorillonite (MMT) contributes to the formation of carbon nanotubes during carbonization of coal tar pitch. MMT contributes to the phenomena of catalytic graphitization already at a temperature of 1000°C. The use of PAH compounds in the catalytic process significantly reduces their emission to the atmosphere.
The mentioned effects result in the improved electrical and thermal conductivity of graphite products basing on the binder modified with the nanoadditives, and also significantly improves their mechanical parameters.
