The periodical entitled Medical Library Forum ISSN 1899-5829 was established at the ini-tiative of the directors of medical university libraries. Ryszard Ż m u d a Ph.D. has been appo-inted the Editor in Chief and Prof. Jacek B a r t k o w i a k M.D., Ph.D. is the Chairman of the Program Council. This semi-annual journal with the Foreword written by noted persons has been reviewed by Professors and awarded points by the Ministry of Science and Higher Educa-tion (MSHE). The periodical has been financed by nine medical universities, namely Nicolaus Copernicus University, Ludwik Rydygier Collegium Medicum (Bydgoszcz), Medical Universi-ty of Gdańsk, Medical UniversiUniversi-ty of Lublin, Medical UniversiUniversi-ty of Lodz, Poznan UniversiUniversi-ty of Medical Sciences, Pomeranian Medical University (Szczecin), the Centre of Postgraduate Me-dical Education (Warszawa), MeMe-dical University of Warsaw and Wroclaw MeMe-dical University. Three universities have not contributed: Medical University of Bialystok, Medical University of Silesia (Katowice) and Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Medical College). The first (9) jubilee issue of the fifth year volume for 2012 with the Foreword written by Professor Maciej B a n a c h M.D., Ph.D., Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Educa-tion presents articles, papers and presentaEduca-tions from the scientific Conference in Poznan, infor-mation publications including Guide, Bibliography and Dictionary as well as teaching materials for PhD students.

Aniela P i o t r o w i c z M.A. the director of the Main Library of Poznan University of Medical Sciences include papers, presentations concerning the following issues: librarianship, scientific information, bibliometry, e-Learning, functioning of university libraries (Medical University of Gdańsk, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Medical University of Lodz, Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Medical University of Warsaw and Wroclaw Medical University), information systems, periodical press, Open Access, websites, scientific information users, copyright, readership, e-books, exhibitions, con-sortia, country license resources, EAHIL, sponsors’ offers: EBSCO, OvidSP, BMJ, ProQuest, LWW, MEDtube, UpToDate and others. The photographic service provided iconographic docu-mentation from the Conference in Poznań.
The present Guide to Editorial Offices of Academic press in 2012 (Katarzyna J a r k i e w i c z Ph.D.) is designed to facilitate the Readers’ contacts with these institutions.
Retrospective Bibliography of titles of academic information journals (1989-2012) elabora-ted by Anna Strumiłło M.A. unveils the vast number of academic periodicals.

The review of the Medical Library Forum 2012 R. 5 No. 1 (9) was written by an outstanding scholar - Prof. Anna S i t a r s k a Ph.D. (Jagiellonian University in Kraków), who previously conducted her research, teaching and organizational activity at the universities in Lodz, Warsaw and Bialystok; furthermore she was awarded the Adam Mickiewicz Prize for the Polish Libra-rian in 2001.
