SUMMARY

.New orogenic theory, based on plate tectonics of Htholtphere has recently been developed. It connects orogenic processes with subduction phenomena. Two ty·pes of orogeny are distinguished. The first, called Andean or Cordilleran type, was formed under a dominant influence of thermal processes. 'Ilhe se-cond, .called Himalayan type, arose as a result of an intercontinental collision, accompanied by stro.ng mechanical factors.
