Abstract

A generalized rule of the phase difference superposition for elliptically birefringent medium with arbitrary azimuth angle is presented. This medium is substituted by the superposition of the linearly and circularly birefringent media. The linearly birefringent medium is situated with the azimuth angle equal 45 with regard to the azimuth angle of input light. The presented rule is expressed using the Mueller matrix formalism and the Poincaré sphere graphical representation.
