Głównym tematem pracy była wszechstronna charakterystyka antropogenicznego dwutlenku węgla w atmosferze Krakowa. Lokalna atmosfera na terenach zurbanizowanych jest z reguły silnie "obciążona" emisjami CO2 pochodzącymi
z licznych źródeł, zarówno punktowych jak i rozproszonych (wysoka i niska emisja związana z systemami ogrzewania paliwem stałym oraz metanem, transport miejski). Do badań wybrano Kraków jako typowy przykład środowiska miejskiego w Europie, funkcjonującego w warunkach klimatu umiarkowanego, z silnie zarysowaną sezonowością zmian temperatury, determinującą zużycie paliw kopalnych dla celów grzewczych. W ramach przeprowadzonych badań stężeń i składu izotopowego atmosferycznego dwutlenku węgla (Δ14C, δ13C oraz δ18O) dokonano oceny wielkości obciążenia lokalnej atmosfery antropogenicznym dwutlenkiem węgla w różnych skalach czasowych na przestrzeni lat 1983 - 2010. Otrzymane wyniki porównano ze statystykami emisji dwutlenku węgla w Krakowie oraz długoterminowymi trendami zmian zużycia paliw kopalnych w skali całego kraju. W pracy przetestowano również alternatywne metody oceny emisji antropogenicznego dwutlenku węgla wykorzystujące związki pojawiające się w procesach spalania - tlenek węgla (CO) oraz wielopierścieniowe węglowodory aromatyczne (WWA). Metody te nie są całkowicie niezależne od pomiarów Δ14C ale po odpowiednim skalibrowaniu pozwalają na wyznaczanie zmian stężenia antropogenicznego dwutlenku węgla z godzinną rozdzielczością czasową.
Anthropogenic carbon dioxide in Krakow city
The main subject of the thesis was characterization of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in atmosphere of Krakow city. Local atmosphere on this urban area is strongly influenced by CO2 emissions from different sources: high emission (electric and
heat power plants), low emission (coal and methane burning in the household) and car transport. Krakow was chosen for measurement as a typical example of urban environment in Central Europe located in temperature climate with strong seasonal variations of temperature which determines usage of fossil fuels in winter months. In a framework of thesis the concentration and isotopic composition of carbon dioxide were measured (Δ14C, δ13C oraz δ18O). On the basis of those measurements the concentration of anthropogenic carbon dioxide was calculated for different time scale during period 1983 - 2010. Obtained results were compared with statistics of carbon dioxide emission in Krakow and with statistics of fossil fuel usage and changes of usage in Poland. In the framework of thesis two alternatives from isotopic measurements methods for calculating anthropogenic carbon dioxide were tested. Both are using compounds which appear in burning process - carbon monoxide and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). Those methods are not completely free from isotopic measurements as they use Δ14C for calibration purposes, but they allow to track the changes of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in hourly time scale.
