Przedmiotem badań jest proszek żelaza, wykazujący wysoki magnetoopór w temperaturze pokojowej w stosunkowo niskich polach magnetycznych, otrzymany metodą mielenia w młynie kulowym. W celu określenia struktury i właściwości chemicznych cienkiej warstwy tlenkowej pokrywającej cząstki metalicznego żelaza, wykonano badania przy użyciu technik XRD, NMR, MS oraz XAS. W badaniach metodą XAS wykonano pomiary przy krawędziach K żelaza i tlenu oraz przy krawędziach L2.3 żelaza dla badanych próbek i próbek wzorcowych metalicznego Fe, magnetytu, maghemitu i hematytu. Przeprowadzono analizę widm badanych próbek w zakresie XANES metodą kombinacji liniowej widm próbek wzorcowych. Dla widm EXAFS, powyżej krawędzi absorpcji, przeprowadzono symulacje i dofitowania struktur krystalicznych próbek wzorcowych. Analiza wyników przeprowadzonych badań pokazała, że próbki wykazujące dobre właściwości magnetooporowe charakteryzują się cienką warstwą tlenkową rzędu kilku nanometrów, o strukturze regularnej odwrotnego spinelu, z dominującą fazą magnetytową. Natomiast próbka o słabych własnościach magnetooporowych cechuje się znacznie grubszą warstwą tlenkową rzędu 30 nm, w której wprawdzie dominuje faza magnetytowa, jednakże warstwa przypowierzchniowa zdominowana jest przez nieuporządkowaną fazę hematytową.
The subject of the study presented, are iron fine particles exhibiting high magnetoresistance at room temperature in moderate magnetic fields, which were obtained by ball milling. In order to determine the structure and chemical properties of the thin oxide layer on the particle surfaces experiments employing XRD, NMR, MS and XAS were conducted. In the XAS study the absorption K-edges of iron and oxygen and L2,3-edges of iron of the samples studied and reference samples of metallic Fe, hematite, maghemite and magnetite were measured. The XANES region of the spectra was analyzed by means of a linear combination of the reference. The EXAFS region was simulated and fitted to appropriate reference crystalline structures of the references. The analysis of the experimental results has shown
that samples with good MR properties have a thin oxide layer of some nanometers with a cubic inverse spinel structure, where the magnetite phase is dominant. The air annealed sample exhibiting poor MR properties has a significantly thicker oxide layer of 30 nm, where the magnetite layer is also dominant. However, the outer layer consists of a disordered hematite phase.
