Metody statystyczne w opisie nieporządku fazonowego i fononowego
The statistical methods in the description of the phasonic and phononic
disorder in quasicrystals
The main goal of the dissertation was to create a new model for incorporating phason and phonon disorder, intrinsic for quasicrystals, in the process of structure solution by diffraction methods. The work focuses on quasicrystals with a point symmetry group of decagonal quasicrystals. The dissertation proposes two ways of modeling the phase disorder: an analytical method, for a small structure deviation from the ideal quasiperiodic coverage, and a model, in which the probability distribution of atomic positions is approximated by the moments of this distribution. Although the structure factor is described in this case by a power series, in the experimentally measurable range the intensity error resulting from the approximation is below 4%. In the statistical model it has been shown that phonon vibrations can be modeled by the Debye-Waller function, however, due to the multitude of local modes it may be beneficial to replace the exponent with the Bessel function. Despite the use of new models, the calculated intensities for weak diffraction peaks still showed a clear discrepancy with respect to the experimental data. It was only the redistribution of intensities by applying the multiple scattering correction that helped to solve the problem. Models were tested for the Al61.9Cu18.5Rh19.6 .phase.
