Fe44Cu18Si13BB9Al8Ni6Y2 amorficzna faza bogata w Fe stanowi osnowę.
VITRIFICATION OF ALLOYS WITH LIQUID MISCIBILITY GAP Summary
Microstructures of the multicomponent Fe-Cu-based alloys with positive heat of mixing are presented. The existence of liquid/liquid phase separation, both after slow and rapid cooling, was proved by occurrence of distinct regions of different compositions. Change of the iron and copper content influences on the volume fractions of both liquids, the Fe- and the Cu-rich. respectively. Both melts can constitute either the matrix or spherical precipitates, depending on chemical composition.
Significant influence of the melt ejection temperature on the microstructure of rapidly cooled ribbons was proved. Microstructure of alloys melt-spun from liquid miscibility gap consists of large, non-uniform areas. After melt spinning from homogeneous melts region, one of the previously existing melts constitutes the matrix, whereas the other formed spherical precipitates. For solidified Fe30Cu32Si13BB9Al8Ni6Y2 alloy the matrix is composed of the
Cu-rich crystalline phase. During cooling of this alloy through the liquid miscibility gap. a precipitation of the Fe-rich spherical particles from the Cu-rich melt occurred, which were frozen later on.
In case of Fe37Cu25Si13BB9Al8Ni6Y2 and Fe44Cu18Si13B9BAl8Ni6Y2 alloys the matrix is
composed of the Fe-rich amorphous phase. The Cu-rich spherical particles, formed during cooling of the Fe-rich melt, crystallized as a metastable Cu3AI phase. During subsequent
heating of the ribbons this phase undergoes transition to more thermodynamically stable Cu3.4Al0.6 phase.
