After an introduction on papyrology, a brief history of this science and a survey of the relevant publications, the authors go through the public administration,.the religious life, the forms of the documents, the method of their dating, the calendar, the monetary system, the metrology and bibliography. They give then a series of 22 texts provenient from different discoveries, 85 texts referring to different fields of papyrology, supplying them with an introduction and with notes. The majority of the texts are of legal character. The book concludes with a collection of tant terms referring to public institutions, as well as of impor-tant terms referring to private law.

It is a Danish translation of 101 papyri of the Ptolemaic pe-riod provided with an introduction and with notes. The texts refer to historical events, administration, law, law-courts and police; army, agriculture, fiscal system; .monopolies, commerce and trans-port, religion and private life. A general introduction gives to non specialized readers informations necessary for the understanding of the papyri.
