Title:
Generation and control of magnetic fields for radio frequency identification RFID and inductive energy transfer
Abstract:
The paper presents the applicability of electromagnetic field model research for optimization of antenna circuit construction to ensure proper radio frequency identification of objects located in the surrounding metallic elements and for analysis of a heating process induced by external magnetic field inside RFID system transponders designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Modeling of a magnetic field was used as the primary research method in order to determine the influence of the surrounding metallic elements on correct operation of the antenna circuit and the reading ranges of RFID reader. Typical air coils design surrounded by metallic elements and ferrite antenna constructions were considered in detail. It allowed to develop a method, in which the results of an electronic circuit simulation are transferred to the COMSOL Multiphysics program in order to determine magnetic field distribution as a function of distance from the RFID reader antenna located in the surrounding metal. The measurement results were used to verify the model and the construction and were the basis of the RFID components behavior analysis. The antenna circuit construction and the detecting electronic circuits of the RFID reader were designed based on the performed research. In addition, based on the research, the appropriate RFID transponder was selected with the test procedure and the design-construction method, developed to ensure safe operation in the underground mines. The designed components are now important elements of the radio identification system for mining roof supports used in the Polish mining industry.
