The Center for Applied Neuroscience Post-Doctoral Researcher Positions

Position Title: Post-Doctoral Researcher Number of positions: Two (2)

Category: 12 month contract with possibility for renewal Place of employment: University of Cyprus, Nicosia

The Center for Applied Neuroscience (CAN) at the University of Cyprus, is now accepting applications for two Post-Doctoral research positions. The Post-Doctoral Researchers will be engaged in activities funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and the European Union, in collaboration with partners in Europe and the US, in one or more of the following areas:

• Epidemiological studies on high incidence disorders/conditions of the central nervous system.

• Development of theoretical predictor models of assessment and treatment by incorporating behavioral, electrophysiological, and imaging methodologies.

• Development and standardization of culturally-valid and sensitive assessment tools.

• Implementation of clinical trials that assess the effectiveness of innovative and/or appropriately adapted treatment methodologies for Cypriot patients with neurological, behavioral, and psychological disorders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities and activities of the Post-Doctoral Researchers include: 1. Coordination of research activities of the Center in collaboration with the project coordinator and the Center’s research team, 2. Data collection and organization, statistical analyses, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of data at high impact journals and scientific conferences, 3. Development of new research proposals and creation of new research networks in Cyprus and internationally.

Qualifications:

• Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in one of the following: Psychology, Neuropsychology, Applied Neurosciences, Cognitive Science, or related field from an accredited university.

• Special consideration will be given to candidates with prior experience and success in securing external funds and coordination of related research activities as well experience with neuroimaging and electrophysiologic techniques.

• It is expected that candidates will have excellent command of the English language (both oral and written) and competence in using statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, SEM, AMOS, Rasch Model, or Time Series Software).

• Knowledge of computer programming and/or expertise with software packages such as E-prime, or Vizard will be an added asset.

Candidates are not required to be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Proficiency is Greek is preferred but not required.

Employment Terms:

Initial contracts will be for 12 months with potential for renewal. Salaries will be determined upon each candidate’s qualifications with a minimum starting gross salary of €2000 per month (employee and employer contributions will be deducted). There is no provision for 13th salary or medical insurance.

Candidates need to submit the following:

1. Complete curriculum vitae in English or Greek.

2. Copies of degree certificate(s) and course transcripts.

3. The names of three individuals (two of which need to be university professors or researchers) that could provide references upon request.

4. A cover letter that clearly explains the research domain that the candidate is interested in, how the candidate’s previous academic and research experiences relate to the goals of CAN, how the candidate can further contribute to the Center’s activities, and the date of availability for employment.

5. Samples of research publications or submitted research projects.

6. Copy of professional license or certification (if applicable).

Applications and all required documentation must be delivered by hand (in print form and electronically on a CD) to the Center for Applied Neuroscience, Second Floor, 65 Kallipoleos Avenue by 28th of June 2013. Alternatively, applications and documentation could be sent by post (postmarked no later than 28th of June 2013) and will be considered valid provided that they are received by the Center for Applied Neuroscience, P.O. Box 20537, 1678 Nicosia by the 05th of July 2013. The applicant has the sole responsibility for timely delivery and receipt of the application packet.
