Fast Ferry Operators Directory 1995

In this Fast Ferry Operators Directory, the twelfth in the annual series, we list details of 235 companies and 792 vessels. This year we have deleted a few com-panies, and some vessels in the fleets'of others, included in previous issues because their service speeds are now less than 25 knots.

Included in the following pages are those companies that were operating fast ferries at the end of September 1995, or had oper-ated seasonal services earlier in the year, or were awaiting delivery of vessels.

The majority of the new operators listed have introduced vessels during the past 12 months but some have been included for the first time, or reinstated, because we have only received confirmation during the past year that they have fast ferries in service.

Companies appearing in the following pages for the first time are Alimar (Italy), Bantan Renraku Kisen, BC Ferries, Black

Sea Shipping PLC, Brighton Ferries, Cata-maran Lines Shipping, Conferry, Cross Sound Ferry Services, Development Con-sultants, Dong Yang Express Ferry, Elba Ferries, Florida Cruise, Hy-Line Cruises, Jadrolinija, Kangaroo Island Fast Ferries, Mols-Linien, New York Fast Ferry Ser-vices, Ocean Bridge Investments, Petra Navigation, Schiffahrtskontor Altes Land, Seajet Shipping, Shen Zhen Xun Long Transportation, Sriwani Tours and Travel, Stan Stephens Tours, Stena Line, Surf Express, T T - L i n e , Universal A b o i t i z , Ustica Lines, Vapores de Pasaje and Vir-gin Hydrofoil Service.

As always, we have erred on the side of caution and have not included those com-panies whose operational status we could not confirm. There are undoubtedly some current operators who are not listed, notably in Greece and Asia.

Several companies have been deleted for the same reason. Nine are missing because

they have definitely closed down, been taken over by other companies or with-drawn their fast ferries: Alimar (Argen-tina), Belt, Bergen-Nordhordland Rutelag, City Jet Line, Hongkong Macao Hydro-foil, Lineas Fred. Olsen, Piraiki NaftiUaki, Q Ship and Sun Island Cruises.

As in previous years, for the purposes of this directory a fast ferry is considered to be a vessel able to carry a minimum of 50 passengers and having a f u l l load speed capability of at least 25 knots.

The operators are listed alphabetically with details of their fleet in date acqui-sition order. Where there are two dates, the first is the year of construction and the second is the year in which the vessel was introduced by the current operator. Details pf multi-stop services are included at the end ofthe directory.
