William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was born in 1564,
probably on April 23, he was a playwright, poet and an actor.
William attended the local grammar school in Stratford where his parents lived, and studied Latin
rhetoric, logic, and literature. William Shakespeare
At age of 18, William married Anne Hathaway, a local farmer’s daughter, eight years older than him. Their first daughter (Susanna) was born six months later (1583), and twins Judith and Hamnet were born in 1585.
Shakespeare probably left school at 15, which was the norm, and took some sort of job. This was also the period of his father’s financial difficulties. It is possible that William in fact worked for his father.
The first 20 years of his life Shakespeare spent in Stratford; for the next 25 years he worked as an actor and playwright in London; for the last five years of his life he came back to Stratford where he led an enjoyable life gained from his theatrical successes.
In 1596 Shakespeare lost his only son, Hamnet, who died at the age of 11.
But Shakespeare’s career continued and in 1599, he became one of the partners in the new Globe Theatre in London.
Shakespeare wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets. He died on April 23 (on his birthday), at age of 52.
