Sacr ed Heart Paris h
My dear Parishioners, Brothers and Sisters,
Divine Mercy Sunday, the Image of the Divine Mercy, and St. Faustina Kowalska.
St. Faustina Kowalska is the well-known apostle of Divine Mercy. On the 30th of April, 2000, the Second Sunday of Easter, Pope St. John Paul II celebrated the Eucharist in Saint Peter’s Square and canonized Blessed Sister Faustina.
Thanks to my friend, Fr. John Główczyk, who lived in Rome at that time, I was among the thousands of pilgrims in Rome that day and I was very close to the main altar. I am so grateful to God that I could be a part of this very special Mass.
The Lord Jesus assigned St. Faustina three basic tasks during her short life: 1. To pray for souls, entrusting them to God's incomprehensible mercy. 2. To tell the world about God's generous mercy. 3. To start a new movement in the Church focusing on God's mercy.
Jesus said to Sr. Faustina: “I desire that the first Sunday after Easter be the Feast of Mercy.” Diary 299 “My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very
depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy
throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.” Diary 699
St. Pope John Paul II made the surprise announcement in his homily on April 30, 2000. He
declared: "It is important then that we accept the whole message that comes to us from the word of God on this Second Sunday of Easter, which from now on throughout the Church, will be called 'Divine Mercy Sunday.' "
By the words "the whole message," the Holy Father was referring to the strict connection between the Easter Mystery of the Redemption: the suffering, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Christ, followed by the sending of the Holy Spirit – and this Feast of Divine Mercy, the Octave Day of Easter.
“Jesus I trust in You,” an icon of Jesus based on the vision given to St. Faustina, shows Jesus raising his right hand in a gesture of blessing, with his left hand on his chest from which gush forth two rays, one red and one pale. The picture contains the message, "Jesus, I trust in You!" The rays streaming out have symbolic meaning: red for the blood of Jesus, which is the life of souls and pale for the water which justifies souls. The whole image is symbolic of the mercy, forgiveness and love of God.
I wish you all a wonderful Sunday rest and a great week. I remember you in my everyday prayers and I ask you to pray for me too, please. May God reward you all the good that you do for Sacred Heart Parish.
With prayer, Fr. Jacek

Drodzy Parafianie, Siostry i Bracia,
Niedziela Miłosierdzia Bożego, Obraz Miłosierdzia Bożego i św. S. Faustyna Kowalska.
Św. Faustynę Kowalską nazywamy apostołką Bożego Miłosierdzia. 30 kwietnia 2000 r., w drugą niedzielę wielkanocną, św. Jan Paweł II odprawił Eucharystię na Placu św. Piotra i kanonizował Błogosławioną Siostrę Faustynę.
Faustynie, ukazuje Jezusa podnoszącego prawą rękę w geście błogosławieństwa, z lewą ręką na piersi, z której tryskają dwa promienie, jeden czerwony i jeden blady.
Cały obraz symbolizuje miłosierdzie, przebaczenie i miłość Boga.
Jacek

Join Us for Mercy Sunday, April 11, 2021
There will be RED novena prayer cards available in the back of the church. Sacred Heart will have a special Holy Hour for the “Feast of Mercy” on Sunday, April 11th. The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of St. Faustina Kowalska from Poland. Our Lord appeared to Sister Faustina Kowalska in a vision, and he told her to paint the now famous image of Divine Mercy, and requested that the Feast of Mercy be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. St. Faustina was the first saint canonized by Pope John Paul II in the new millennium. (Fr. McGinnity attended this beautiful event in Rome.)
The Sacred Heart Queen of Peace prayer group will be sponsoring the Feast of Mercy again this year at the parish. The preparations begin on Good Friday, April 2nd, with the special Divine Mercy novena red prayer cards. Can be found in the back of church. Please pray the novena to obtain mercy for yourselves and for the whole world. The Lord promised special graces to all who keep this special Feast of Mercy:
“The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete
forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are open. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.”
You couldn’t ask for a better invitation than that!

Dear Parishioners,
Thank you for your generous support for our Split the Pot fundraising efforts. We are seeing more support of this effort as the weeks roll on. However, it is becoming more difficult every week to keep track of donations. Many of you are sending one check in and asking us to spread the Split the Pot donations over several future weeks’ drawings. Other times the instructions are not specific enough and we have to track down your intentions. Since the winner must give to Split the Pot and make a regular donation to qualify to win, it is imperative that we are able to determine this at the time of the drawing. We are also receiving entries through the post office, sometimes these are late entries that do not qualify because we have drawn the number before receiving the envelopes. . We are doing our best and are committed to being transparent.
These exceptions are causing problems, so, if at all possible please send in one envelope and one check (cash) specifically for Split the Pot in the week it is drawn.
Thank you for your continued generosity and understanding.
Emmett Williamson, Business Manager
