St. Mary of Czestochowa Fourth Sunday of Lent
John 3:14-21
Jesus tells Nicodemus that the Son of Man will be raised up so that those who believe in him will have eternal life.
Background on the Gospel Reading
The fourth Sunday of Lent is sometimes called Laetare Sunday. Laetare is a Latin word that means “rejoice.” Traditionally, Sundays are named after the first word of the liturgy’s opening antiphon.
On this Sunday, the antiphon is taken from the book of the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 66:10-11). Even as we observe our Lenten sacrifices, we rejoice in anticipa- tion of the joy that will be ours at Easter.
Today’s Gospel reading is taken from John’s Gospel. It consists of two parts. The first part is the final sentence of Jesus’ reply to Nicodemus, the Phar- isee who approached Jesus at night. Nicodemus acknowledged Jesus as someone who had come from God and seemed to want to be a follower of Jesus.
Jesus greeted Nicodemus with the observation that one must be born from above to see the Kingdom of God. The dialogue between Jesus and Nicodemus that followed was about the meaning of this phrase. Nico- demus misunderstood Jesus at every point, but there was no animosity in the questions he posed to Jesus.
In the part of the conversation with Nicode- mus in today’s Gospel, Jesus referred to an incident reported in the Old Testament. When the Israelites grumbled against the Lord during their sojourn in the desert, God sent venomous serpents to punish them for their complaints. The Israelites repented and asked Moses to pray for them. The Lord heard Moses’ pray- er and instructed him to make a bronze serpent and mount it on a pole. All who had been bitten by a ser- pent and then looked upon the bronze serpent were cured. By recalling this story, Jesus alludes to the sal- vation that would be accomplished through his death and Resurrection.
The second part of today’s Gospel is a theo- logical reflection on Jesus’ words to Nicodemus. The Gospel of John is known for this kind of reflection offered within the narrative. The words of the Evan- gelist are in continuity with the words of the prologue to John’s Gospel. In these reflections, John elaborates on a number of themes that are found in his Gospel:
light and darkness, belief and unbelief, good and evil, salvation and condemnation.
In John’s reflection, we find an observation

Beloved father, father of tenderness, obedience and hospitality; the father of creative courage, a worker, always in the shadow "- these words are used by the Pope to describe St. Joseph. He does this in the Apostolic Letter "Patris corde - With a paternal heart", published today on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of the Spouse of Mary as the patron of the Catholic Church. It was Blessed Pius IX, by decree Quemadmodum Deus, signed on December 8, 1870, bestowed this title on Saint Joseph To celebrate this anniversary, from today to December 8, 2021, the Pope announced a special "Year" dedicated to the Guardian of Jesus.

Saint Clement Maria Hofbauer The Redemptorist connects with his person and activity three countries:
the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria. He was born on December 26, 1751 in Tasowice in Moravia. In 1787, he established in Poland the first institution of the Redemptorist Congregation outside Italy, founded in 1732 by St.
Alphonsus Maria de Liguori. For 21 years, St.
Clement acted as a tireless apostle of Warsaw. After expelling the Redemptorists from Poland, in 1808, he found refuge in Austria, where he earned the title of the patron saint of Vienna for his activities. As a persistent pilgrim and zealous preacher of the Gospel, he died on March 15, 1820. He is the patron of Vienna, the apostle of Warsaw and the spiritual guardian of bakers. Thus, his liturgical m em orial falls on M arch 15
about human sinfulness. Jesus is the light that has come into the world, but people preferred the dark- ness. We wish to keep our sins hidden, even from God. Jesus has come into the world to reveal our sins so that they may be forgiven. This is the Good News;
it is the reason for our rejoicing in this season of Lent and throughout our lives.
IV Domingo de Cuaresma Jn 3, 14-21
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a Nicodemo: “Así como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así tiene que ser levantado el Hijo del hombre, para que todo el que crea en él tenga vida eterna.
Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo, que le entregó a su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna. Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salvara por él. El que cree en él no será condenado;
pero el que no cree ya está condenado, por no haber creído en el Hijo único de Dios.
La causa de la condenación es ésta: habiendo venido la luz al mundo, los hombres prefirieron las tinieblas a la luz, porque sus obras eran malas. Todo aquel que hace el mal, aborrece la luz y no se acerca a ella, para que sus obras no se descubran. En cambio, el que obra el bien conforme a la verdad, se acerca a la luz, para que se vea que sus obras están hechas según Dios’’.

Solamente los estudiantes que hayan completado su reporte escrito para la Confirmación y sus horas de servicio comunitario calificaran para la evaluación a Confirmación y posteriormente los que pasen el examen serán los candidatos a Confirmación de este año.
Clemente Hofbauer fue beatificado el 29 de enero de 1888 por el Papa Leo XIII y canonizado como santo de la Iglesia católica el 20 de mayo de 1909. En 1914, el Papa Pío X le concede el título de Apóstol y Patrón de Viena. Hoy, a más de 150 años de su muerte, la fiesta anual de san Clemente es celebrada de modo especial por la población de Viena y por los seis mil sacerdotes y hermanos del mundo en- tero que visten el hábito redentorista como lo hizo san Clemente.
¿Qué hizo de Clemente Hofbauer un santo? No hizo ningún milagro que pudiera asombrar a nadie, no tuvo ni visiones ni éxtasis capaces de impresionar. Tuvo incluso algunos defectos – un carácter alemán irasci- ble, tendencia a ser huraño. Pero si se nos hubiera con- cedido estar algún tiempo junto a él, hubiéramos des- cubierto que era un hombre de fe extraordinariamente firme, un hombre tranquilo y de extraordinaria paz, un hombre capaz de trabajar por el bien de las almas sin fatigarse jamás. Característica principal de su santidad es la sencillez. Otras características suyas fueron la aceptación de la voluntad de Dios tal como se le mani- festaba, el hacer todo el bien de que era capaz. Llevó una vida de inocencia y de servicio, toda ella dedicada a la gloria de Dios y a inducir a los demás que lo sirvieran. Precisamente por el modo tan sencillo en que se hizo santo, san Clemente continúa siendo hoy para todos nosotros un modelo de santidad.
El Papa Francisco convoca a un «Año de San José»
Con la Carta apostólica Patris corde (Con corazón de padre), el Pontífice recuerda el 150 aniversario de la declaración de san José como Patrono de la Iglesia Universal y, con motivo de esta ocasión, a partir de hoy y hasta el 8 de diciembre de 2021 se celebrará un año dedicado especialmente a él.
A él dirijamos nuestra oración:
Salve, custodio del Redentor y esposo de la Virgen María.
A ti Dios confió a su Hijo, en ti María depositó su confianza, contigo Cristo se forjó como hombre.

Czyni to w Liście apostolskim „Patris corde – Z ojcowskim sercem", opublikowanym dzisiaj z okazji 150. rocznicy ogłoszenia Oblubieńca Maryi patronem Kościoła katolickiego. To właśnie błogosławiony Pius IX, dekretem Quemadmodum Deus, podpisanym 8 grudnia 1870 r., obdarzył tym tytułem świętego Józefa. Dla uczczenia tej rocznicy Papież ogłosił od dziś do 8 grudnia 2021 roku specjalny „Rok"
poświęcony Opiekunowi Jezusa.

Święty Klemens Maria Hofbauer
Redemptorysta łączy swoją osobą i działalnością trzy kraje:
Czechy, Polskę i Austrię. Urodził się 26 grudnia 1751 r. w Tasowicach na Morawach. W 1787 r. utworzył w Polsce pierwszą poza Italią placówkę Zgromadzenia Redemptorystów, założonego w 1732 r. przez św.
Alfonsa Marię de Liguori. Przez 21 lat św. Klemens działał jako niestrudzony apostoł Warszawy. Po wypędzeniu redemptorystów z Polski, w 1808 r., znalazł schronienie w Austrii, gdzie za swoją działalność zyskał sobie tytuł patrona Wiednia. Jako wytrwały pielgrzym i gorliwy głosiciel Ewangelii zmarł 15 marca 1820 r. Jest patronem Wiednia, apostołem Warszawy oraz opiekunem duchowym piekarzy. Jego wspomnienie liturgiczne przypada więc 15 marca
