W.J. Nühn Voorontwerp van een containerkraan op een binnenvaartschip (een technische haalbaarheidsschip). Masters thesis, Report 96.3.TT.4773, Transport Technology.
In the near future the transport sector will grow in the Netherlands. The Dutch government wants to approach this development by stimulating container transport by inland navigation shipment. Disadvantage of this kind of transport are the high trans-shipment costs. However these trans-shipment costs can be diminished by installing a permanent container crane on the inland navigation ship. An already existing design for such a crane has been discussed and studied on technical realisability.
This design seems to be a technical realisable construction, although several essential alterations and adaptations are suggested. Both the loading beam and the lifting unit as well as the roadframe have to be altered.
The idea of a telescoping loading bearn is replaced by a loading beam with a box girder against buckling, a cross beam and an auxiliary cylinder. The lifting hydraulic drive of the unit is displaced and the lifting frame is provided with four hauling winches and an extra cylinder.
The roadframe is provided with guiding rolls and bogie sets.
These suggested alterations have been worked out and discussed in relation to the following aspects: the dimensions;
the mechanical parts;
the electric and hydraulic provisions; the performances;
the energy provision; the occurring strain stresses.
The result is a new pre-design of a permanent container crane, to be used on an inland navigation ship. Reports on Transport Engineering (in Dutch)
