Foreword

Contemporary reality necessitates a complex approach to the issue of examination of documents, which in practical terms means that one needs to be constantly aware of all the recent developments in this area. Examination of documents comprises various disciplines, including for-ensic sciences, criminology, law on evidence and many other disciplines of science

This volume presents articles devoted to the forensic examination of handwriting and signatures, degree of conclusiveness of expert opinions issued in this area based on statistical methods, diagnostic and evidential relevance of handwriting examination, use of elements of graphology and application of technical means in this field. It also features discus-sion of status, condition and development of handwriting examination — the issues ever so urgent — as well as the limits in relevance of expert opinions.

Sharing ideas and research results as well as international cooperation in the area in question is necessary, which is reflected by the original and innovative studies published in this volume by the outstanding represent-atives of science and experienced practitioners.

This volume is aimed not only at a limited circle of specialists and experts; we hope that it will prove useful as a source of knowledge of the document and its examination for law enforcement officers, represent-atives of the system of justice, lawyers, notaries, legal advisors and all those who are interested in the latest developments in document examin-ation in various countries.
