OFIAROWANIE PAŃSKIE

Świeca jest symbolem ludzkiego życia. Kiedy zostanie zapalona, zaczyna jej systematycznie ubywać. Podobnie jest z naszym życiem. Nikt z nas nie wie, ile dni mu jeszcze zostało. Dziś trzymając świecę w ręku trzeba zapytać, co mam czynić, aby ten kawałek życia, jaki mi jeszcze został dobrze wykorzystać, by nie trzeba było żałować.

Świeca jest także symbolem ofiary. Spala się własnym kosztem i dlatego od wieków utożsamiano ją ofiarą. Zawsze płonie na ołtarzu podczas sprawowania Najświętszej Ofiary.

Dziś ta świeca, którą trzymasz w ręku, stawia ci pytanie, czy stać cię na Ofiarę.

Świeca to symbol wiary. Na chrzcie otrzymaliśmy zapaloną świecę jako symbol światła wiary i we wszystkich ważnych momentach życia. Otrzymaną na chrzcie św. wiarę, trzeba przenieść przez całe życie, a nie jest to wcale takie łatwe.

Świeca jest wreszcie symbolem chrześcijaństwa.

Chrystus powiedział: „Ja jestem światłem” a „wy jesteście światłością świata”. W ten sposób określił nasze wspaniałe zadanie wobec całego stworzenia. Czy jesteś światłem, za które inni są wdzięczni, czy też twego światła w ogóle nie widać? Prośmy Matkę Najświętszą o dobre wykorzystanie życia, które nam jeszcze zostało, o gotowość do ofiary, o mocną i żywą wiarę aż do śmierci i o łaski potrzebne do wypełnienia chrześcijańskich zadań wobec świata.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

In the first reading, the prophet Malachi describes the one who will prepare a way before the Lord when he comes to purify his people. The author of Hebrews describes how Jesus came to share in flesh and blood like God’s children so as to expiate the sins of the people. In the Gospel, Jesus is taken by Mary and Joseph to be presented in the Temple;

he is recognized by Simon and Anna as the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.

Jesus Christ is the salvation prepared for all nations to see

The feast of the Presentation of the Lord invites us to celebrate the truth that Christ is the light of all nations, and the long-awaited glory of Israel. As we celebrate God’s presence among us, we are invited to reflect on our calling to bring his redemptive light into our world.

FEAST OF ST. BLAISE – PATRON OF THROAT ILLNESSES - FEBRUARY 3^RD

Many Catholics might remember Saint Blaise feast day because of the Blessing of the Throat that took place on this day. Two candles are blessed, held slightly open, and pressed against the throat as the blessing is said. St.

Blaise’s protection of those with throat troubles apparently comes, form legend that a boy was brought to him who had fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when St. Blaise healed him. Very few facts are known about St.

Blaise. We believe he was a bishop of Sebastea in Armenia who was martyred under the reign of Licinius in early fourth century. Blessing of the throat will be at mass.

OFIAROWNIE JEZUSA W ŚWIĄTYNI NIEDZIELA 2, LUTEGO

Dzisiaj, czterdziestego dnia po Bożym Narodzeniu, obchodzimy pamiątkę pew- nego wydarzenia, związanego z dzie- ciństwem naszego Pana. Stosownie do żydowskiego zwyczaju Matka Boża udała się do świątyni w Jerozolimie, aby podziękować Bogu za narodzenie się Syna oraz złożyć ofiarę na swoje oczyszczenie. Aby uczynić zadość Prawu, Maryja nie musiała wcale brać ze sobą Jezusa; wystarczyłoby, że sama stawiła się przed kapłanami. Fakt, że wzięła Go ze sobą świadczy o tym, iż pragnęła w sposób szczególny ofiarować Go Bogu. I tu kryje się głębszy sens dzisiejszego święta. Nie chodzi w nim tylko o wypełnienie przepisu Prawa, lecz o wydarzenie znacznie ważniejsze: w osobie Jezusa Bóg ofiaruje siebie za zbawienie świata. Dlatego pełna nazwa dzisiejszego święta brzmi: święto Ofiarowania Pańskiego.

A skąd wziął się zwyczaj przychodzenia dziś do kościoła ze świecami?

Kiedy mały, czterdziestodniowy Jezus został przyniesiony do świątyni, wówczas starzec Symeon, który rozpoznaje w Nim Boga, nazywa Dziecię „światłem na oświecenie pogan”. Światło więc i świece, to symbol Jezusa Chrystusa.

Później powstał zwyczaj, by poświęcone dzisiaj świece zapalać przy konających i podczas burzy, dla ochrony przed gromami - stąd nazwa „gromnice”.

Niech przypominają nam one o Światłości świata, Jezusie Chrystusie, przychodzącym również dzisiaj do naszej świątyni. Przygotujmy się na przyjście naszego Pana, byśmy umieli rozpoznać Go tak, jak Symeon. Wyznajmy, że potrzebujemy oczyszczenia.

Panie, który jesteś światłością człowieka, wpatruję się w Ciebie, aby nauczyć się, jak wypełniać wolę Ojca. Niech Duch Święty kieruje moimi krokami, abym doszedł do radości.

PRESENTATION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, LIGHT FROM LIGHT

This feast of light becons us to see the glory of God’s saving power reveled in Jesus. Like Simon, we have seen salvation in Christ.

This year, the feast of Presentation falls on Sunday, offering the entire Sunday assembly the opportunity to share in the distinctive liturgical features of this day, including the blessing of candles and the procession accompanied by canticle Nun Dimittis (“Lord, now you let your servant go in peace”), which is also included in the Gospel reading. In some ways, this feast represents the last flicker of the Advent-Christmas season, commemorating the presentation of Jesus in the Jerusalem temple. In Vatican City, the large outdoor manger scene is left in place until this day. It is almost as if the Church just can’t give up on celebrating the mystery of God-made-flesh.

The significance of this feast is brought out by the first reading, from Malachi, which speaks of the Lord coming to occupy his temple. Malachi, however, depicts this as an almost terrifying event, in which God’s purifying fire will burn away everything that defiles the true worship of God so that a pure offering might be made. Luke’s gospel, in contrast depicts the Lord coming to his temple in the form of the infant Jesus, seemingly without might or glory. But Simon, the faithful servant of God who had waited all his life for Messiah, can recognize in this child the salvation of God, which is a light to the Gentiles and the glory of Israel, the one who makes possible true worship of the Father. Again, we are presented with the mystery of Christmas: the saving power of God made present in the weakness of a child.

Even on this final feast of Christmas, the light of Christ still shine brightly for those who know how to see the glory of God reveled in Jesus. As we immerse ourselves over the next few weeks in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, it, is important to remember that the one who teaches us is Emmanuel, God-with-us.

Lord God, like Simon we have waited for the revelation of your glory, and we believe that you have given us Jesus as a light to the nations. May our lives reflects his light to all those in darkness.
