My dear Parishioners, Sisters and Brothers,

The story of Job, whom we meet in today's first reading is a story about a human life marked by great suffering. I think many of us find in his words, our own willingness to complain and express sorrow. His experience is close to many of us, especially now. "My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle; they come to an end without hope." Time flows through our fingers, and sometimes it is so hard to believe that life has meaning. "I have been assigned months of misery, and troubled nights have been allotted to me."

It seems that the world we live in is crazy. There is no time for rest, for stopping by, the world is not waiting. And we, with the cell phones, we check whether we have Internet connectivity or not, we check our dish TV or cable TV – and try not to fall out of rhythm. With the phones and on the Internet social networks we have plenty of "contacts," or "friends"… but often we can say with Job: "the night drags on; I am filled with restlessness until the dawn.”

The Word of God tells us today the Good News, which can raise us from Job’s darkness. "Jesus took our infirmities and bore our diseases." Jesus’ power is greater than our distress, our sadness and our trials.

His light dispels the darkness. Did we notice that Jesus’ miracles happened in the dark, after sunset? "When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to Him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and He drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew Him.”

Jesus Christ proclaims the good news. He talks about liberation, about hope, about healing. Job asks:

"If in bed I say, "When shall I arise?” The true Light has already risen – Jesus Christ – who took upon Himself to heal our diseases. Experiencing God's power, Jesus calls each of us to be His disciple. We say with the Apostle Paul: "An obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it!”

What does this mean for us today? Our preaching of the Gospel is first and foremost our witness to the good life. We are also responsible for the material interests of our parish and the Archdiocese of Chicago.

This weekend on behalf of Cardinal Cupich, we are asked to help them in their material needs. The Annual Catholic Appeal is not just another second collection.

I offer my heartfelt thanks to you for all that you do for Sacred Heart Parish, for your sacrifice and support. I remember you in my everyday prayers, and I ask you to pray for me too, please. May God reward you with His blessing and graces!

Proszę Was o znalezienie czasu w tym tygodniu na refleksję nad materiałami Dorocznej Kwesty Katolickiej, które powinniście otrzymać pocztą lub znajdują się w biuletynie. Prosimy, abyście pamiętali, że Doroczna Kwesta Katolicka jest czymś zupełnie innym niż jednorazową specjalną kolektą. Moi drodzy Parafianie, Siostry i Bracia,

Historia Hioba, o którym mówi nam pierwsze czytanie, to opowieść o życiu człowieka naznaczonym wielkim cierpieniem. Myślę, że wielu z nas odnajduje w jego słowach naszą własną gotowość do narzekania i wyrażania smutku. Jego doświadczenie jest tak bliskie wielu z nas, szczególnie teraz. „Dni moje lecą jak tkackie czółenko, i kończą się, bo braknie nici. (nadziei)” Czas płynie nam przez palce i czasami tak trudno uwierzyć, że życie ma sens. „Tak moim działem miesiące nicości i wyznaczono mi noce udręki.”

Patrząc i oceniając nasz świat, często dochodzimy do wniosku, że świat zwariował. Nikt nie ma czasu na odpoczynek, na zatrzymanie się, bo świat nie czeka. A my z telefonami komórkowymi sprawdzamy czy mamy połączenie z internetem, czy nie – sprawdzamy czy nasz TV ma odpowiednie połączenia i kanały – i tak bardzo się staramy, aby nie wypaść z rytmu. A nasze smartfony z aplikacjami społecznościowymi są pełne „kontaktów”, „przyjaciół”… ale często możemy powiedzieć z Hiobem:

„Kiedyż zaświta i wstanę? Przedłuża się wieczór, a niepokój mnie syci do świtu.”

Słowo Boże przekazuje nam dzisiaj Dobrą Nowinę, która może nam pomóc wyrwać się z ciemności Hioba. „Jezus wziął na siebie nasze słabości i dźwigał nasze choroby.” Moc Jezusa jest większa niż nasze cierpienie, nasz smutek i nasze trudne doświadczenia. A Jego światło naprawdę rozprasza ciemność. Czy zauważyliśmy, że cuda Jezusa wydarzyły się w ciemności, po zachodzie słońca? „Z nastaniem wieczora, gdy słońce zaszło, przynosili do Niego wszystkich chorych i opętanych; i całe miasto zebrało się u drzwi. Uzdrowił wielu dotkniętych rozmaitymi chorobami i wiele złych duchów wyrzucił, lecz nie pozwalał złym duchom mówić, ponieważ Go znały.” Jezus Chrystus przynosi nam Ewangelię – Dobrą Nowinę. Mówi o wyzwoleniu, nadziei, uzdrowieniu. Job pyta: „Położę się, mówiąc do siebie: Kiedyż zaświta i wstanę?”

A odpowiedzią jest prawdziwe Światło – Jezus Chrystus – który wziął na siebie nasze choroby.

Mocą Bożą, Jezus powołuje każdego z nas, abyśmy byli Jego uczniami. Za apostołem Pawłem mówimy: „Świadom jestem ciążącego na mnie obowiązku. Biada mi bowiem, gdybym nie głosił Ewangelii!”

Co to oznacza dla nas dzisiaj? Nasze głoszenie Ewangelii jest przede wszystkim świadectwem dobrego życia. Jesteśmy również odpowiedzialni za materialne sprawy naszej parafii i Archidiecezji Chicago. W ten weekend w imieniu Ks. Kardynała Cupicha jesteśmy proszeni o pomoc materialną. I jak każdego roku przypinam, że Doroczna Kwesta Katolicka to nie tylko kolejna druga składka.

Serdecznie dziękuję Wam za wszystko, co robicie dla parafii Najświętszego Serca, za waszą ofiarę i wsparcie. Pamiętam was w moich codziennych modlitwach i proszę was, módlcie się również za mnie.

Niech Bóg wynagrodzi Wam swoim błogosławieństwem i łaskami!

COUNSELING BY FATHER ROHRICH

Anyone wishing to make an appointment for counseling with Father Bob can do so by calling 630 257 9235.

Appointment times are on weekdays between 10am and 11am, and 5pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.

Fr. Bob counsels the married and engaged, individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grieving, separation, divorce and other personal problems. The cost per session is $10 and sessions are held at the DePaul Center, 212 Custer Street, in Lemont.

Our ministry makes and distributes knitted and crocheted shawls to anyone in need: for healing and comfort during difficult situations and for celebration and thanksgiving for joyous occa- sions. Each shawl comes with a healing blessing.

During Advent, the Knights of Columbus sponsored our second Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest with the Religious Education students of Sacred Heart & St. Damian (Oak Forest). The aim was to highlight the light of Jesus and the spirit of giving instead of the preoccupation with materialism. Needless to say, our chil- dren had no trouble illustrating the true meaning of Christmas. They all did admirably. Our panel of judges had a difficult time picking their favorites. But, when the votes were tallied, we had our winners. Each win- ner received a $25 gift card.

Last September, you supported our council’s second Tootsie Roll drive (Campaign for People with Intellec- tual Disabilities). The focus of the campaign is to recognize the dignity of everyone of God’s chil- dren...because we are all God’s children. Through our combined efforts, it was an amazing success in spite of a global pandemic. Proceeds went to support the following non-profit organizations. They do a tremen- dous job serving our fellow sisters and brothers with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Thank you for your generous support for our Split the Pot fundraising efforts. We are seeing more support of this effort as the weeks roll on. However, it is becoming more difficult every week to keep track of donations. Many of you are sending one check in and asking us to spread the Split the Pot donations over several future weeks’ drawings. Other times the instructions are not specific enough and we have to track down your intentions. Since the winner must give to Split the Pot and make a regular donation to qualify to win, it is imperative that we are able to determine this at the time of the drawing. We are also receiving entries through the post office, sometimes these are late entries that do not qualify because we have drawn the number before receiving the envelopes. . We are doing our best and are committed to being transparent.

These exceptions are causing problems, so, if at all possible please send in one envelope and one check (cash) specifically for Split the Pot in the week it is drawn.

envelopes for split the pot). All monies for split the pot will be set aside until there is a winner.

3. There may not be a winner every week. Each week, a name is drawn from our entire, (whether they participate in the split the pot or not) parishioner file. If the name drawn participated in that week’s split the pot drawing, they will win the split the pot prize.

The brick orders that have been gathered during this last wave, December 2019 through November 2020 have finally been installed. They were delayed due to the Covid pandemic. Starting in December 2020, Wave 5 orders are now being accepted and we are hoping for a Spring installation.

Much has happened in these past several months with so many limitations, you may not have been able to attend such momentous occasions as a special birthday, baptism, graduation, wedding or the funeral of a loved one.

January is a special month to remember those loved ones that are gone but are not forgotten, why not honor their memory for the 2021 New Year by creating a brick for them in our

memorial gardens.
