Masters thesis, Report 86.3.2014.TT, Transport Engineering and Logistics.
New generations of crane vessels are currently subject of extensive analysis and development. Heavy lift capacities have become available offshore and their lift operations should be evaluated in detail from the point of view of technical and economical optimisation. Such evaluations are becoming increasingly important because of the consequences of failures in large scale lift operations.
The feasibility of an offshore heavy lift operation is determined not only by the static weight and size of the load, but for a greater part also by the prevailing weather conditions. Consequently the dynamic motions of the load in the crane, induced by waves and wind, play an important role.
This study deals with the dynamic behaviour of such cranes, in particular the Heerema 5000 sht crane. For that reason a mathematical model has been developed which makes it possible to investigate dynamic forces in the main hoist system, the boom, the derrick station and other crane parts of interest.
