Lesson plan/procedure
1 Warm up
Interaction forms: whole class Duration: 5 minutes
The teacher asks the students how often they watch films. Do they go to the cinema or watch them on TV/DVD/computer? What kind of films do they like? What kind of information about their favourite movie stars is interesting for them? Where can they find it?
The students share ideas in open class.
2 Main stage
2.1. Introduction to the topic – searching for information Interaction forms: individual/pairs, whole class
Duration: 14 minutes
The teacher tells the students that in this lesson they will have a chance to find out some information about several celebrities.
He/She distributes worksheets (Supporting Material 1) to all the students and draws students’ attention to the type of information they will be looking for.
Then he/she distributes the text materials about different movie stars to all the students. They should be told that the text is based on authentic Wikipedia entries.
The students’ task is to fill in the table by finding the missing information in the texts.
Some of the spaces in the table have already been filled in to set the pattern for providing answers.
The students can work individually or in pairs (for peer support and to develop communication skills) – the teacher chooses the solution appropriate for the class. If
the students work on their own, it is advised to let them compare their answers in pairs before eliciting them in open class.
The teacher monitors and helps, if necessary.
When the students are ready, the answers are checked in open class.

2.2. Target language extension and practice – audio recording / gap fill Interaction forms: individual/pairs; whole class
Duration: 12 minutes
The teacher tells the students that they will listen to a recording about a very popular actor, Johnny Depp. The teacher distributes the gap-fill task (Supporting Material 2) to every student. The students have to fill in the sentences about Johnny Depp with the information from the recording.
The recording is played twice. The students complete the gap-fill individually or in pairs, then the recording is played a third time for them to check the answers.

2.3. Consolidation and practice – personalisation Interaction forms: small groups

In small groups, the students talk about their favourite film or music stars. Who is this person? What are their greatest films/hits? What interesting information do the
students know about them?
3 Closing stage

For homework, the teacher asks the students to write a brief note about a chosen celebrity. They should model their texts on the materials they worked with in stage 2.1.
