RULES AND REGULATIONS OF

THE CONSULAR CORPS IN LONDON

At the Meetings of the Consular Corps in London on the 10th February, 1928, and the 18th February, 1930, it was resolved as follows :—

(1) All duly accredited Consular Officers shall as such be Members of the Consular Corps in London.

(2) The Doyen of the Consular Corps and as such qualified to call the members of the Corps together as occasion may require, shall always be the oldest in service and highest in rank of the professional Consuls.

(3) The member next to the Doyen as the oldest in service and highest in rank of the professional Consuls, shall be Vice-Doyen, who shall act in the absence of the Doyen.

(4) An Honorary Secretary shall be appointed for three years, who will also act as Treasurer.

(5) A Council of seven members shall be annually appointed from the members who are Chefs de poste. The Doyen and the Honorary Secretary shall be ex officio members of the Council.

(6) The Council shall organise receptions and other functions of the Consular Corps, and fix the cost of the same.

(7) The Honorary Secretary shall keep the minutes at the meetings of the Consular Corps, and also keep a register of the members of the Consular Corps. He transacts the current business of the Consular Corps.

(8) The Consular Corps shall meet when convened by the Doyen, but at least once a year after one of the dinners of the Consular Corps.

At these meetings only Chefs de poste have a vote.

Quorum shall be ten members present, and the Doyen shall have the casting vote.

(9) The Council shall meet as occasion may require. The quorum shall be three members present and the Doyen, who has the casting vote, shall preside.

(10) There shall be two luncheons or dinners a year, at which current business can be transacted, the first when only Chefs de poste participate and the second when Chefs de poste and one commissioned officer from every Consular post can be invited to attend.

There shall also be one annual dinner at which guests (ladies and/or gentlemen) will be welcomed.

(11) The members who invite guests shall pay for these guests, and inform the Secretary five days before the dinner about their name and how many guests will come.

(12) A member who has notified the Secretary about his intention to join the Dinner Party shall be liable to pay his share whether he is able to come or not unless five days’ notice is given to the Secretary.

(13) The annual subscription payable by every member of the Consular Corps is 15/-, due on or before the 1st July.
