F.P.A. Hogedoorn Design of a simulation model for the AGV-system of autonome Roboter G.m.b.H. Computer program, Report 93.3.LT.4025, Transport Engineering and Logistics.
The company 'Autonome Roboter' sells AGV-systems. When such a system is implemented, the layout is designed using a CAD program called 'RED'. RED has, however, no facilities to simulate this designed system, as a real-time imitation of the reality on the computer. Such a simulation would provide a valuable means of ensuring that optimal locations of crossings or docking points in the system are chosen and to determine the number of vehicles needed. Simulation offers a powerful tool to optimize logistic problems and it can save much time and money.
To provide the possibility of simulating a system designed in RED, a simulation model has been developed. This simulation tool is called 'red_sim'. The model is programmed in the simulation language 'Must'. The model generates a network based on the output data from RED. After the user has specified information about order generation and the number of vehicles, the system can be simulated. The entire process can be followed and analyzed by using an on screen animation. With the help of certain criteria the system can be evaluated and, if neccesary, modified.
