Religious and Sacred Poetry
Religious poetry (and sacred poetry) is written nowadays as often as in the past, but it frequently appears in new contexts. Metaphysical references may be found in various historical, aesthetic and educational settings. Max Sheller argues that “an act of religious cognition is more similar to artistic experience of the world than to the cognition typical for science and metaphysics”1. How close, then, poetry and religion are in this respect!
The journal Religious and Sacred Poetry (Poezja Religijna i Sak
ralna) offers the possibility of exploring the common ground of religion
and poetry. We are very happy to present the first issue of the journal to our readers.
