THE CLINICAL COURSE IN 101 CASES OF TRICHINELLOSIS IN HO- SPITAL OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN CHORZÓW (1960)

During epidemy of trichinellosis in Zabrze we noted 101 cases of this diseases 49 women, 46 men and 6
childręn.
Among patients there were chiefly workeri- from heavy industry, slaughter-house labourers and those employed in meat-distra bution (transport, shops). Patients had consumed various kinds of meat, but as established in inguieries - it was mainly the popular sort of sausage named in Silesia „ metka" .
Most of patients carne to the hospital in the first week or at the beginning of the second week of disease. Clinical symptoms were: in all cases egual sudden swelling of eyelids _ and faces, increase of temperature and a feeling of been battered.
In all cases coniunctivitis palpebrarum et coniunctivitis bulbi were noted. Further in 10° /
0 of cases bloodsheds in coniunctiva bul bi appeared. 50° /
0 patients suffered on heart-sensations. At the beginning of disease 4 women suffered on diarrhoea with vomiting, others had constipation. During the third week in 5 cases there were noted plain ulcera of mucosa cavi oris. There were no pains of transpiration muscles (musculi intercostales and diaphragma) so characteristic in haevy cases of trichinello sis, nor complications in transpiration. Diagnosis followed clinical
observations and laboratory tests.
Patients were trated symptomatically. In serious cases Hydro-Adreson and
ACTH were applied. Patients remained in hospital for two weeks. In the 6th week
23 women and 41 men carne to control. Only 2 women and 8 men from this number
had no signs of illness. Among the others chiefly muscle - pains (15 women and
21 men),

weakness and heart - aches were noted. 5 patients with exceptio-
nally bad course remained in the hospital for the second time. To these patients
Hydro-Adreson was applied.
