‘Abd al-ÍamÐd AÎmad was born in 1957 in Dubai. He studied for three years in Great Britain. He worked for the Emirati newspapers: Azmina al-‘arabiyya” (1979), “al--IttiÎÁd” (1982–1988), “al-BayÁn” (1988–2000). At present he works for the English--language newspaper “Gulf News” as the editor-in-chief. He is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). He is Secretary General of the ÑulÔÁn al-‘Uways Cultural Foundation. He has published the following collections of short stories: as-SibÁÎa fÐ ‘aynay khÁlÐj yatawaÎash (1982), al-BaydÁr (1987), ‘AlÁ ÎÁfat an-nahÁr (1992) and the critical studies: KharbashÁt fÐ ÎudÙd al-mumkin (1997), an-NiÛam al-‘ÁlamÐ aÃ-ÃaÎik (1998), ar-Ru’asÁ’ ‘andamÁ yughanÙn (2000).

LaylÁ AÎmad is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa Ud-abÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). She has published the collection of short stories Al-Khayma, al-mihrajÁn wa al-waÔan (1984).

RawÃa al-BalÙshÐ was born in al-Ayn. She has published her literary works since 2003.

She has published the collection of short stories BÁÒ al-qiyÁma (2009).

AsmÁ’ az-Zar‘ÙnÐ was born in ash-ShÁriqa in 1964. She graduated in Education Studies in 1988. She is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’

al-ImÁrÁt) and the Arab Writers’ Association (IttiÎÁd al-KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-‘Arab). She works for the Ministry of Education. She activly participates in cultural events. She re-ceived the prize for Best Book published in 2009 in ash-ShÁriqa. She has published two volumes of poetry: HadhÁ al-masÁ’ lanÁ (1997) and BawÎ al-ÎamÁm (2008), the col-lections of short stories: Hamas ash-shawÁÔi’, ash-ShawÁÔi’ al-fÁrigha, novel al-Jasad ar-rÁÎil, and the following stories for children: AÎmad wa as-samaka, al-‘UÒfÙra wa al-waÔan, GhÁbat as-sa’Áda, SalÁma, ÍakÐma.

‘Abd ar-RiÃÁ as-SajwÁnÐ was born in 1959 in ash-ShÁriqa. He graduated in Arabic Studies from the Emirates University. He is a member of the Emirati Literary Associa-tion (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). He works for the Ministry of EducaAssocia-tion. He

has published the following collections of short stories: Dhalika az-zamÁn (1978), Zala ‘udhÁrÐ (1980), ar-Rafà (1992), InÎidÁr (2001), Hitaf ash-shams (2001), Ishra‘a al-layl (2003).

SalmÁ MaÔar Sayf (real name: Maryam ‘Abd AllÁh AbÙ ShihÁb) was born in Dubai.

She has published the following collections of short stories: ‘Ushba (1998), HÁjir (1997).

AmÐna ‘Abd AllÁh BÙ ShihÁb was born in Ajman in 1960. She is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). She has published the following collections of short stories: as-Safar ilÁ al-janna, Mahra.

‘AlÐ ‘Abd al-‘AzÐz ash-SharhÁn was born in 1950 in Ra’s al-Khayma. He graduated in Linguistic Studies from university in Great Britain. He has worked as a professor at the Emirati University, subsequently becoming Minister of Higher Education. He is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). He has published the collection of short stories: ash-ShaqÁ’ (ed. I, 1977; ed. II, 1992), and the books: al-MaÔbu‘at al-‘aÒriyya (1977), TaÎawwulÁt al-lugha ad-dÁrija (1990).

ÍÁrib aÛ-ÚÁhirÐ was born in 1964 in al-‘Ayn. He graduated from university in the USA.

He is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt).

He has published the following volumes of poetry: Qubla ‘alÁ khadd al-qamar (1999) and Shams shafatayki (2002) and the collections of short stories: MandulÐn (1997) and Layl ad-damÁ (2005).

NÁÒir aÛ-ÚÁhirÐ was born in al-‘Ayn in 1960. He graduated in French Literature from the Emirates University in 1984. He received a diploma from the Institute of Journalism at the Sorbon in Paris. He writes articles for Emirati newspapers. He is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). He has published the collection of short stories: ÍÁlÁt min al-layl yaghshÁhÁ an-nahÁr (2005).

Su‘Ád al-‘ArÐmÐ was born in 1954 in al-‘Ayn. She works for the Emirati University in al-‘Ayn. She has published the following collections of short stories: ÓufÙl (1990), Íafl GhamrÁn (1997), Ra’s dhÐ YaÛan (2008).

Maryam Jum‘a Faraj was born in 1956 in Dubai. She graduated in English Literature from the University in Baghdad. She received her MA in Translatology from London University in Great Britain. She has published the following collections of short stories:

FayrÙz (1988), MÁ’ (1993), ImrÁ’ istithnÁ’iyya.

FÁÔima al-MazrÙ‘Ð was born in Abu Dhabi. She graduated in History from the Emir-ates University. She writes articles for Emirati newspapers and magazines. She has pub-lished the following collections of short stories: Laylat al-‘Ðd (2003), Qarya qadÐma fÐ jabal (2004), Wajh armala fÁtina (2009) and the volume of poetry LaytanÐ kuntu Warda (2007).

‘Abd Allah Ñaqr AÎmad al-MirrÐ was born in 1952 in Dubai. He is a pioneer of the short story in the Emirates. He works as a coach and sports referee. He is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). He has published

the following collections of short stories: QulÙb la tarÎam (1969), al-Khashaba (ed.

I, 1975; ed. II 1999). He is also the author of the volume of poetry IghtirÁb fÐ zaman maslÙb (1975).

IbrÁhÐm MubÁrak was born in 1952 in Umm Suqeym. He graduated in Psychology.

He is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt) and the Arab Writers’ Association (IttiÎÁd al-KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-‘Arab). He works for the newspaper “al-IttiÎÁd” (he writes the weekly column SawÁÎil). He has published the following collections of short stories: aÔ-ÓaÎlub (1989), ‘UÒfÙr al-thalj (1992), KhÁn (1999), Dajr ÔÁ’ir al-layl (2005).

MuÎammad AÎmad al-Murr was born in 1954 in Dubai. He graduated from Syrakuzy University in New York. From the beginnings of the 1980s he has worked for the Emirati newspapers: “al-KhalÐj”, and “al-BayÁn” (he writes the weekly column AwrÁq al-aÎad for the newspaper “al-KhalÐj”). He is Head of the Cultural-Scientific Association (Nadwa ath--thaqÁfa wa al-‘ulÙm) in Dubai. He is also a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). He has published the following collections of short stories: Íubb min naw’ akhar (1982), al-FurÒa al- akhÐra (1983), ÑadÁqa (1984), Shay’

min al-ÎanÁn (1985), al-MufÁjÁ’a (1985), YÁsmÐn (1986), NaÒÐb (1986), ÍabbÙba (1987), MakÁn fÐ al-qalb (1988), Qurrat al-‘ayn (1988), aÒ-Sawt an-nÁ‘im (1989). All the above mentioned collections of short stories were published in the three-part book ‘A’mÁl al-qaÒaÒiyya (1992). He has subsequently published other collections of short stories: SiÎÁba Òayf (1995) and FayaÃÁn (2000). In 1997, in Dubai, he published three books about the Modern Emirates: ‘AmÁl waÔaniyya, ‘AjÁ’ib ad-dunyÁ, Íawla al-Álam fÐ ithnayn wa ashrÐn yawman. He has also written a book about Emirati dialect KalÁm an-nÁs.

IbtisÁm al-Mu‘allÁ was born in ash-ShÁriqa. She has published the collection of short stories Âaw’ yadhab li-l-nawm (2009).

Shaykha MubÁrak an-NÁkhÐ was born in ash-ShÁriqa. She graduated in Literature in 1985. She received her MA in Pedagogy from the Emiarte University in 1987. She has worked for the Ministry of Education in ash-ShÁriqa. She is a member of the Emirati Literary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt). She has published the fol-lowing collections of short stories: ar-RaÎÐl (1992), RiyÁÎ ash-shimÁl (1999).

BÁsima MuÎammad YÙnis was born in 1964. She graduated from the Emirate Uni-versity in English Literature in 1986. She received a diploma in law from the Arabic University in Beirut in 1993. She received her MA in Administration from the Uni-versity of Birmingham in Great Britain in 2008. She is a member of the Emirati Liter-ary Association (IttiÎÁd KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-ImÁrÁt) and the Arab Writers’ Association (IttiÎÁd al-KuttÁb wa UdabÁ’ al-‘Arab). She has published the following collections of short stories: ‘AdhÁb (1987), IghtiyÁl unthÁ (1988), I’alÁn (1989), MadhÁ law mÁta ÛillÐ (2003), ‘AlÁqa khaÔira (2006) and drama: al-BadÐl (2001), BanÁt an-nawkhidha (2002), ÑÁÎib al-maÔ‘am (2005).
