Data grouped by sections, divisions and - in some cases - by groups were prepared on the basis of the second edition of the EKD introduced by the instructions No 83 of the CSO President of December 31, 1990 (Official Gazette of the CSO, No 30, entry 151) coming into force on January 1, 1991.

3. Additionally used grouped: category Industry refers to the EKD sections: Mining and quarrying, Manufacturing and Electricity, gas and water supply.

In the review tables some economic categories were remained grouped according to KGN.

Data according to sections, divisions and groups of the EKD are compiled - unless

°t ®n/vise stated - by the enterprise method.

Enterprise method means, that the whole units of national economy are accepted as a basis of grouped all data describing their activities by classification levels and territorial arrangements.

4. Units of the national economy are understood as legal persons, independent organizational units without status of legal personality and natural persons carrying out economic activities.

Economic units are understoodas units carrying out economic activities, that is, producing goods and services aimed at drawing a profit and on the account of the unit carrying out the activity ■ There arent understood as economic units: budgetary units, research and development institutions, higher schools, foundations, social, political, union organisations and others which are formed to organize social, cultural and political life or to carrying out the state tasks.

5- Informations for some groups of units were introduced according to the scope of statistical surveys by the size of employment as of November 30 of year preceding survey.

Economic units were grouped into the following groups:

~ small - with employment 5 people and less,

- medium - with employment from 6 to 20 people, and from 6 to 50 people in sections:

Mining and quarrying, Manufacturing and (to 1992) Construction,

8. Data at current prices refer to income gained, expenditure beard orvalue of production or services. In tables, in which the price explanation is not given, statistical data are at current prices.

10. Index numbers - in cases of classification changes, changes in methodology and changes in system of constant prices for given periods - are compiled according to the chain method.

While computing per capita figures (per 1000 population, etc.) for data as of the end of a year (for example number of telephones, number of physicians) the number of population is taken as of December 31, whereas data describing the magnitude of the phenomenon within a year (for example vital statistics, production) - the number of population is taken as of June 30.

9. Relative figures (indices, percentages) are compiled, as a rule, on the basis of absolute res expressed with more precision than those given in tables.

12. Methodological notes concerning basic concepts and method of data processing are given in the general notes to every chapter.

13. When published data did not belong to CSO or SO - tables were provided with sources.

14. Due to data processing technology, in selected cases the totals of elements may differ from the figure grand total.
