J. F. G i l l i a m , A Roman naval Roster: P. Ryland's 79 (repr. from Classical Philology, vol. XCVIII, nr 2, April 1953). G i l l i a m shows that it is a part of a roster of men from at least two ships. Lines 1—-9 conclude the list of those from one; further lines — those from the liburna "Mercury". It appears that the document does not contain a complete roster of shipping com-panies but only specifies certain groups of men selected for some unknown reason. At any rate there is nothing to suggest that these lines form a part of a pridianum.

In this study the author discusses the law-suits in which legal persons (the fisc, the municipia and municipal senates) are repre-sented by respective deputies. These lawsuits wore decided either in the way of extraordinary proceedings or in the way of normal fiscal procedure.
